Tonalist Wins Jockey Club Gold Cup at Belmont Park
Las Vegas, NV - The biggest race of the weekend - the $1 million Jockey Club Gold Cup was contested at Belmont Park in Elmont, New York on Saturday, September 27. Robert S. Evans' Belmont Stakes winner Tonalist emerged victorious by 1 3/4 lengths as the tepid 3-1 favorite with 4-1 third choice Zivo getting in for second. Tonalist will now run the Breeders' Cup Classic in just over a month's time. Long River finished a good third while Stephanoatsee elevated to fourth following the disqualification of Moreno. Moreno was followed by V. E. Day, Last Gunfighter, Big Cazanova, Speak Logistics, and Moreno. Micromanage was eased. Prayer for Relief was a late scratch.
