Roca Rojo Wins Athenia Stakes at Belmont Park
The G3 Athenia Stakes was run Sunday, October 23 at Belmont Park in Elmont, New York. Fillies and mares three years old and upward were featured when they took to Belmont Park's Inner Turf track and raced 1 1/16 miles. Sheep Pond Partners, Newport Stables, and Bradley Thoroughbreds 4-1 third choice Roca Rojo recorded her first graded stakes win by 3 1/4 lengths in the field of 10. Stormy Victoria finished second at 5-1 odds while Mexican Gold got in for third at 3-1 odds. Strike Charmer, who was also sent off at 3-1 was fourth and was followed by My Sweet Girl, Okana, Sea Coast, Sparkle Factor, Means Well and All in Fun to complete the order of finish. La Inesperada scratched.
