Effinex Wins Suburban Handicap at Belmont Park
Belmont Park in Elmont, New York was the scene of the $500,000 Grade 2 Suburban Handicap on Saturday, July 9. Horses four years old and upward were featured as they went 1 1/4 miles on Belmont Park's dirt track. Tri-Bone Stables' slight second choice Effinex defended his title, by just a neck thanks to a terrific stretch run. 11-1 shot Samraat finished a good second in the field of seven with 2-1 favorite Mubtaahij getting in for a slightly disappointing third. Eagle came from sixth to finish fourth, followed by Shaman Ghost, Turco Bravo, and Tapin Mojo, to complete the order of finish. Noble Bird scratched.
