American Pharoah Wins Breeders' Cup Classic at Keeneland
Las Vegas, NV - The Main Event on this year's Breeder's Cup card at Keeneland in Lexington, Kentucky, the $5 million Grade 1 Breeders' Cup Classic went down on Saturday, October 31. A field of just eight assembled to try knock overwhelming 3-5 favorite American Pharoah off his perch in his last career start. That didn't happen - Pharoah made it look awfully easy - the 6 1/2 length victory was the largest margin of victory in Breeders' Cup Classic history and the fastest race ever at 1 1/4 miles at Keeneland. 33-1 shot Effinex finished a good second with 4-1 second choice Honor Code closing from last to claim third. Keen Ice, Tonalist, Hard Aces, Frosted, and Gleneagles completed the order of finish. Smooth Roller and champion Beholder unfortunately scratched.
