Mor Spirit Wins Steve Sexton Mile at Lone Star Park
Lone Star Park in Grand Prairie, Texas was the scene of the $200,000 G3 Steve Sexton Mile on Sunday, May 7. Horses three years old and upward were featured as they took to Lone Star's dirt track and raced one mile. Michael Lund Peterson's grade 1 winner, overwhelming 2-5 race favorite Mor Spirit proved best on the day, leading every step of the way and prevailing by an impressive 5 3/4 lengths. 8-1 shot Texas Chrome closed well to finish second in the field that was trimmed to just six, 1 1/4 lengths ahead of 7-2 second choice Iron Fist who got in for third. Shotgun Cowboy was four while American Dubai, and F J Uncle Vic completed the order of finish. Graded stakes winners Carve and Great Minds, along with stakes winner U S Officer were all scratched.
