California Chrome Wins Dubai World Cup at Meydan Racecourse
The richest race in the world - the $10 million Group 1 Dubai World Cup went down at Meydan Racecourse in the United Arab Emirates on Saturday, March 26 when some of the best horses three years old and upward took to Meydan's dirt track and raced about 1 1/4 miles. It was 6-5 race favorite California Chrome that proved best on the day from post 11, avenging last year's second place finish in this race by a relatively easy five lengths. With the win California Chrome became the richest North American racehorse of all time with a staggering $12,532,650 in career earnings. 16-1 shot Mubtaahij finished second thanks to a strong move along the rail while Hoppertunity wound up third at 25-1 odds. Completing the order of finish were Special Fighter, second betting choice Frosted, Mshawish, Candy Boy, Keen Ice, Hokko Tarumae, Teletext, Vadamos, and Gun Pit.
