American Pharoah Wins Haskell Invitational Stakes at Monmouth Park
Las Vegas, NV - The most anticipated race of the weekend - the $1.75 million William Hill Haskell Invitational was contested at Monmouth Park on the Jersey shore on Sunday, August 2. It was American Pharoah's race to lose and he certainly didn't disappoint in the 1 1/8 mile event biding his time and prevailing by a relatively easy 2 1/4 lengths as the overwhelming 1-9 betting favorite. American Pharoah, in turn earned an automatic berth into the Breeders' Cup Classic at Keeneland. 18-1 long shot Keen Ice finished a very good second while 6-1 shot Upstart was third. Pace setter Competitive Edge finished fourth followed by Top Clearance, Dontbetwithbruno and Mr. Jordan. Nonna's Boy scratched.
