Girvin Wins Haskell Invitational Stakes at Monmouth Park
The biggest race of the weekend - the $1 million G1 Haskell Invitational Stakes was contested Sunday, July 30 at Monmouth Park in Oceanport, New Jersey. Some of the best three-year olds around took to Monmouth's dirt track and raced 1 1/8 miles. Brad Grady's multiple graded stakes winner- 9-1 shot Girvin further muddied this year's 3-year-old male division by coming from last to win by a nose at the wire for his first G1 score. McCraken, who was sent off at 7-1 got caught at the end but settled to a quality second with multiple grade 1 winner Practical Joke claiming third as the 4-1 third betting choice. 2-1 second choice Irish War Cry was fourth in the field of seven while 9-5 favorite Timeline was fifth and Battle of Midway and Hence completing the order of finish.
