Santa Anita Derby at Santa Anita Park Results
Las Vegas, NV - The $750,000 Grade 1 Santa Anita Derby was contested in Arcadia, California Saturday - the West Coast qualifying race on the Road to the Kentucky Derby. Doug O'Neill's Goldencents, sent off a 6-1 odds surprised the eight horse field with a 1 1/4 length win to avenge a disappointing fourth place finish in the San Felipe Stakes March 9. Bob Baffert trained and even money favorite Flashback finished second and Super Ninety Nine was third. The result assures Goldencents and Flashback of starting berths in this year's Kentucky Derby. Tiz a Minister, third in the San Felipe last time out, was third, followed by Power Broker, Storm Fighter, Summer Exclusive, and Dirty Swagg. San Felipe winner Hear the Ghost was scratched from the race after sustaining a minor leg injury in training and will be sidelined through the Triple Crown series.
