Shared Belief Wins Malibu Stakes at Santa Anita
Las Vegas, NV - Opening Day at Santa Anita Park in Arcadia, California took place on Friday, December 26 and featured the $300,000 Grade 1 Malibu Stakes - a seven furlong sprint for three year olds. 1-2 favorite Shared Belief shrugged off what was a forgettable Breeders' Cup trip and emerged victorious by a neck over a very game 72-1 shot Conquest Two Step. Pacesetting Chitu finished third with Indianapolis weakening late in fourth. Frensham was next, followed by the Hollendorfer-trained Tamarando, Rprettyboyfloyd, Diamond Bachelor, and Midnight Hawk. Bob Baffert trained Pimpernel was scratched.
