The $100,000 G3 American Stakes was contested Tuesday, July 4 at Santa Anita Park in Arcadia, California - a one mile turf test for horses three years old and upward. It was Nick Alexander's Tribal Rule homebred, 5-1 second betting choice Pee Wee Reese that bested the field and recorded his first ever graded stakes score - by 1 3/4 lengths. Even money favorite Om finished an OK second in the field of eight with Alert Bay another 1 1/4 lengths back in third at 6-1 odds. Flamboyant was fourth with Hunt, Kenjisstorm, Si Sage, and Patentar completing the order of finish. Smokey Image was scratched.
