Ransom the Moon Wins Kona Gold Stakes at Santa Anita Park
The $200,000 G2 Kona Gold Stakes was run Saturday, May 20 at Santa Anita Park in Arcadia, California. Horses three years old and upward took to Santa Anita's dirt track and dashed 6 1/2 furlongs. Phil D'Amato trainee and 7-2 co-second choice Ransom the Moon made a triumphant stakes debut, winning by 2 1/4 lengths in the field of eight. 11-1 shot Moe Candy finished second, a half-length ahead of 8-5 favorite Lord Simba in third. Kobe's Back, who was sent off at 7-2 odds was another 3 3/4 lengths back in fourth with Calculator, Eastwood, Kentuckian, and Touched by Autism completing the order of finish. Dr. Dorr scratched.
