Spiral Stakes at Turfway Park Results
Las Vegas, NV - One of the two all-important Road to the Kentucky Derby points gathering races took place at Turfway Park on Saturday. The $550,000 Grade 3 Horseshoe Casino Cincinnati Spiral Stakes awarded 50 points toward qualification into the Run for the Roses in May. Sterling Racing's Black Onyx put his name firmly on the Derby radar with an upset 1 1/2 length win at 15-1 odds for his first career stakes victory. Kentucky Jockey Club winner and well respected 3-1 second choice Uncaptured, trained by Mark Casse finished second, and John Battaglia Memorial runner-up Giant Finish was third at 23-1 odds. 22-1 Taken by the Storm, Fear the Kitten, For Greater Glory, Channel Isle, 3-1 favorite My Name is Michael, Capo Bastone, General Election, Balance the Books, and Mac the Man completed the order of finish.
