Las Vegas, NV - The Grade 1 Acorn Stakes takes place this Holiday Monday May 28th from Belmont Park as part of the undercard for the $750,000 Metropolitan Mile. Three year old fillies will race one mile around one turn for a $300,000 purse.
The Acorn, which is traditionally on the Belmont Stakes program, has been moved this year to become part of the Memorial stacked card that includes three Grade 1 races. The Acorn goes as race 9 on Belmont's Monday card with a post time of 5:14 PM - quite a warm-up for the Metropolitan Mile that follows. Six horses are entered - let's meet them.
On Fire Baby - is a three time graded stakes winner but is coming off a disappointing fifth last time out on the Grade 1 Kentucky Oaks after a very impressive win in the Grade 3 Honeybee Stakes at Oaklawn on March 10th. On Fire Baby won the Grade 2 Golden Rod Stakes back in November and followed it up with a third in the Smarty Jones at Oaklawn. On Fire Baby has four wins in seven career starts with one third place finish. She will break from a favorable post 3 in the Acorn.
Contested - Bob Baffert trained Contested has only four career starts with three wins and a second place finish. After an overwhelming win against an Allowance field on April 15th, she was able to prove that her results weren't a fluke. Contested went on to win the Grade 3 Eight Belles Stakes at Churchill Downs on May 4th in very impressive fashion and should be on the Acorn radar.
Sacristy - won the Grade 3 Old Hat Stakes at Gulfstream on January 1st and followed that result up with a third place finish in the Grade 2 Forward Gal Stakes at Gulfstream on January 29th before enduring a 2-month layoff. Since her return Sacristy finishes an impressive second in the Grade 2 Beaumont at Keeneland on April 15th but followed that up with a disappointing seventh in the Kentucky Oaks

Hard Mystery - Most recently posted a victory on this track over this distance in the Inside Information Stakes on April 28th to follow up a disappointing sixth in the Limit Stake at Aqueduct before that. Prior to those results, Hard Mystery had two wins in lesser races at Aqueduct. This will be her graded stakes debut.
Zo Impressive - won her first two career starts - an Allowance Optional Claiming at Gulfstream on February 25th and a Maiden Special Weight race on January 22nd also at Gulfstream. She followed that up with an impressive second behind Grace Hall last time out in the Grade 2 Gulfstream Oaks Stakes on March 31st.
Aubby K - has only three career starts with two wins. Her only graded stakes action resulted in a reasonable fourth in the Grade 2 Pocahontas Stakes at Churchill Downs in October.
