Las Vegas, NV -- The Grade 3 Beaugay Stakes comes our way from Belmont Park this Saturday May 5th - the biggest day on the horse racing calendar so far in 2012. Fillies and mares three years old and upward will be after their share of the $150,000 purse when they go 1 1/16 miles on Belmont's turf track.
The Beaugay Stakes has drawn eight entries for the 7th race on Belmont's Saturday Schedule. Post time is 4:02 PM. Let's take a look at the participants and their results leading up the first graded turf stakes of 2012 at Belmont.
Winter Memories - Three time graded stakes winner, Winter Memories will make her 2012 debut this week. She is coming off a rather disappointing fourth in the Grade 1 Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup at Keeneland in October but she did win the Grade 1 Garden City Stakes on this track in September in impressive fashion. From April - July 2012 Winter Memories won three straight graded stakes races - the Appalachian, the Sands Point and the Lake George Stakes. In nine career starts she has an impressive six wins and a second place finish.
La Cloche (alternate) - is the co-favorite with her half sister despite some pedestrian recent results - a fifth last time out in the De La Rosa Stakes in August and a sixth in the Grade 2 New York Stakes at this track last June. La Cloche has been out of action since August.
Federation - up-and-coming British horse has been very successful recently at Tampa Bay Downs winning a pair of Allowance races and most recently finishing an impressive second in the Grade 3 Hillsborough Stakes on March 10th. Federation is fast and is on quite a roll ahead of the Beaugay.

Principal Role - makes her US debut after success in her native England. Principle Role won two of her last three races in England and has five wins, one second and three third place wins in 13 career starts.
Hessonite - is a multiple stakes winner - none of them graded however. Over the last year, Hessonite has wins at the Justenuffhumor Ticonderoga Stakes, the New York Stallion Series Stakes, the New York Stallion Cupecoy's Joy Stakes and an allowance. She also has a second in the Pebble Stakes and a third in the Grade 3 Boiling Springs Stakes. Hessonite is battle tested and could surprise this weekend.
Check the Label - Last win was the 2010 Grade 1 Garden Stakes and has struggled since with the best result being a second in the Grade 3 Hillard Lyons Doubledogdare Stakes last April. Last time out was a seventh in the H.B.P.A Stakes on October and before that was a 10th in the Beverly D. Stakes at Arlington last August.
Gitchee Goomie - won the Yaddo Stakes at Saratoga last August and has followed it up with a fifth at the Grade 1 Flower Bowl Invitational Stakes on this track in October and a pair of seconds - most recently the Justenuffhumor on October 22nd and an allowance at Gulfstream on March 30th.
My Redbyrd - has placed in her last three starts - a win last time out in the Videogenic Stakes, a second in the Middle Stage Stakes and a third in the Pebbles Stakes. In 12 career starts My Redbyrd has four wins, two seconds and three third place finishes.
Check Point - has a staggering 30 career starts and has also placed in her last three - third in the Videogenic Stakes on April 14th, a second in the Grade 3 Turnback the Alarm Handicap on November and a win in the Starter Handicap on this track in October.
