Las Vegas, NV - The 29th running of the Grade 2 Jaipur Stakes comes our way this Friday, June 8th from Belmont Park in the great state of New York. Horses three years old and upward will be racing seven furlongs on Belmont's turf course in search of their share of the $150,000 purse.
A strong field of nine entries have been confirmed for the Jaipur including the first and second place horses from last year's event. The nine will go in race 9 on Belmont's Friday card with a post time of 5:10 PM ET. Here is a look at all of the entries and the recent performances that brought them to this Grade 3 event.
Right One - won this race last year and since then has one eighth place finish - the Grade 1 Nearctic Stakes at Woodbine in October and three third place finishes - the Grade 1 Woodbine Mile, the Pay the Butler Stakes and the Grade 2 Commonwealth Stakes last time out at Keeneland on April 14th.
Yield Bogey - finished second in this event in 2011 behind Right One - his second straight second place finish at Grade 2 events. Since that race Yield Bogey struggled to a disappointing 12th in the Grade 1 Nearctic Stakes in October to close out his 2011. In three races since last year's Jaipur, Yield Bogey has yet to place. Friday will mark his 2012 debut.
Boots Ahead - is a multiple stakes winner but none of the graded stakes variety. Boot Ahead does have three straight starts at Belmont with a fourth last time out in the Grade 3 Fort Macy Stakes, a fifth in the Grade 3 Knickerbocker Stakes and a win in the Third Martini Stakes last September. Looking for a sleeper?
Bergerac - has two starts this year and is coming off an impressive second last time out in the Grade 2 Commonwealth Stakes at Keeneland on April 14th. That result followed a second in an Allowance Optional Claiming at Gulfstream.
Ponzi Scheme - is coming off an impressive win in the Decathlon Stakes at Monmouth Park on May 12th after three wins and a third place finish, one being the Grade 3 Philip H. Iselin Stakes, in his previous five.
