Las Vegas, NV - The 44th running of the Grade 1 Ogden Phipps Handicap is on tap for this Holiday Monday, May 28th from Belmont Park in New York. Fillies and mares three years old and upward will be chasing their share of the $400,000 purse when they race 1 1/16 miles on Belmont's main track.
The Ogden Phipps is just one of three Grade 1 races on Belmont's Holiday Monday schedule. It is slated as the eighth race with a post time of 4:40 PM. A small field of five will take part - let's take a glimpse into what brought them to this Grade 1 event.
Awesome Maria - Defending champion in this event Todd Pletcher trained Awesome Maria to keep an incredible streak of six straight wins going on Monday - all in graded stakes races. She had four Grade 3 wins - the Sabin in 2011 and 2012, the Rampart in 2011 and 2012, the Grade 2 Shuvee Handicap and the 2011 Ogden Phipps under her belt. Awesome Maria is currently ranked sixth on the National Thoroughbred Racing Association's weekly pole and looks... well, awesome and is the clear-cut favorite in this race.
It's Tricky - Has finished first or second in each of her last seven starts - four wins and three seconds including wins in her last two races - the Grade 2 Distaff Handicap last time out on April 14th and the Grade 2 Top Flight Handicap in March. Another impressive result is a second in the Breeders' Cup Ladies' Classic in November. It's Tricky is fast - but fast enough to catch Awesome Maria?
Juanita - Won the Grade 2 La Troienne Stakes at Churchill Downs last time out on May 4th over the likes of Plum Pretty and St. Johns River. Juanita has run well in big races over the past year winning the Grade 2 Indiana Oaks and finishing second to Horse of the Year Havre de Grace in the New Orleans Ladies Stakes in March. Juanita is strong but may be a bit out of her league against Awesome Maria.

She's All In - Has four starts already this year and has placed in all - two third place finishes in the Pippin Stakes and the Bayakoa, a second in the Grade 3 Azeri Stakes at Oaklawn and a win last time out in the Grade 3 Sixty Sails Handicap at Hawthorne on April 21st. Like the rest of the field She's All In is accomplished and may be primed to shock.
Cash for Clunkers - has six career starts with four wins a second and a third place finish including three straight wins. Cash for Clunkers has yet to participate in a graded stakes race - this is a huge step up in competition.
Race 8 on Belmont Park's Monday card with a Post Time of 4:40 PM.
