Las Vegas, NV - The Breeders' Cup at Santa Anita kicks off this Friday November 2 with the newest race on the schedule, the yet graded Breeders' Cup Juvenile Sprint. Two year olds will be featured as they dash six furlongs on Santa Anita's main track for a purse of $500,000.
A field of seven will line up in the Juvenile Sprint. It is race 4 on Santa Anita's Friday schedule with a post time of 1:06 PM. Here is a look at all seven contenders and what brought them to this prestigious juvenile sprint race - a race made a tad less interesting with the defection of a few top fillies in favor of the Juvenile Fillies later on.
Merit Man - is two-for-two in his career - the last win coming last time out on this very track over this very distance in the Tim Conway Stakes October 6 by 5 1/2 lengths. With fillies Kauai Katie and Beholder opting for the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Merit Man became the 8-5 morning-line favorite.
Super Ninety Nine - Bob Baffert trained colt was very impressive in her one and only career race - a Maiden Special Weight score here October 7. Baffert won the inaugural edition of this race and will be looking to repeat Friday with Super Ninety Nine.
Sweet Shirley Mae - broke maiden in her first career start in May at Belmont but was fifth in the Grade 3 Schuylerville Stakes on July 20. Last time out was a necessary bounce back for Sweet Shirley Mae - a second at the Grade 1 Spinaway Stakes at Saratoga September 2 for trainer Wesley Ward.
South Floyd - Doug O'Neill trained colt was second last time out to Merit Man in the Tim Conway here a month ago. Before that was a Maiden Special Weight score in his debut at Fairplex Park September 22.
