Las Vegas, NV - The 2012 Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint is on tap for this Saturday, November 3 from Santa Anita Park. Horses three years old and upward will dash 6.5 furlongs on Santa Anita's unique downhill turf course in search of their share of the $1 million purse.
A field of 14 has been confirmed for the Turf Sprint. It is race 7 on Santa Anita's jammed Saturday card with a post time of 1:57 PM. Here is a brief glance into past performances of all 14 combatants ahead of this important Grade 1 race.
Bridgetown - Todd Pletcher entry comes into the Breeders' Cup having won two straight (the Grade 3 Woodford at Keeneland last time out and the minor Troy Stakes at Saratoga before that) and having placed in six straight starts. Bridgetown has been competitive finishing in the money in 15 of 19 starts and finished fourth in the 2010 version of this race.
Unbridled's Note - Steve Asmussen trained colt hopes to build off a win last time out in the Grade 3 Eddie D Stakes here September 28. He had a very good third in the Grade 2 Amsterdam Stakes July 29 and another decent third in the King's Bishop at Saratoga on August 25 to follow an Allowance Optional Claiming score in June. He has seven career starts with three wins and two third place finishes and has placed in his last four overall.
California Flag - has participated in this race an astounding four times and won back in 2009. He is lightly raced over the past 12 months but his three starts have resulted in a pair of wins - the Grade 3 Morvich here last October and at the Grade 3 San Simeon Handicap last time out here way back on April 21. In between the wins is a twelfth in the 2011 version of this race.
Corporate Jungle - had won four of his last five starts - three in a row including the Grade 3 Appleton Stakes at Gulfstream on March 31 and the Elkwood Stakes at Monmouth on May 19 but ended that streak with a fifth in the Grade 1 Shoemaker Mile. He was second to Wise Dan in the Fourstardave Handicap on August 11 and a disappointing seventh last time out in the Grade 1 Shadwell October 6 at Keeneland. Corporate Jungle is just another intriguing name to watch this weekend despite a sketchy couple of outings lately.
Reneesgotzip - has six starts this year with three wins and two second place finishes - the most impressive result being a 7 3/4 length win at the Grade 2 Santa Ynez Stakes here in January. Since that time Reneesgotzip has finished in the money five more times but is coming off her worst career effort - a seventh last time out in the Grade 1 Santa Anita Sprint.
Camp Victory - had a very productive 2011 and an OK 2012. Camp Victory started this year with a pair of thirds in graded stakes races and emerged on the radar with an impressive win over rival The Factor in the Grade 1 Triple Bend Handicap at Hollywood Park June 30. His last two starts have resulted in a third in the Grade 2 Pat O'Brien August 26 and a sixth last time out in the Grade 1 Santa Anita Sprint Championship here October 6. He is no slouch, has four wins in 11 starts on grass and could be in the mix Saturday.
Next Question - burst on the scene last time out with a win in his graded stakes debut - the Grade 1 Nearctic at Woodbine October 14. Before that he had a win in an Allowance Optional Claiming at Belmont Park and a second a fourth and a fifth in a trio of Allowance races to start 2012. He has just seven career starts but a win last time out has him on the Breeders' Cup radar.
Great Attack - has two wins and a second place finish in four starts this year including his most impressive result - a win last time out in the Grade 3 Twin Spires Turf Sprint Stakes way back in May. Before that was a sixth in the Grade 3 Shakertown Stakes at Keeneland in April and a win in the minor Turf Dash Stakes at Tampa Bay in February. Great Attack has been out of action for five months and will likely have some rust this weekend.
