Las Vegas, NV - The Grade 1 Bing Crosby Stakes is on tap for this Sunday, July 29th from Del Mar Race Track in Southern California. A purse of $300,000 is on the line for horses three years old and upward willing to dash six furlongs on Del Mar's synthetic track.
A small field of five has been entered in the Bing Crosby. It is race 8 on Del Mar's Sunday card with a post time of 5:30 PM. Here is a look at all five entries and the recent performances that brought them to this important Grade 1 race.
The Factor - Bob Baffert trained The Factor is a five-time graded stakes winner that had an characteristically poor race in March - a sixth in the Dubai Golden Shaheen but followed it up with a decent second last time out in the Grade 1 Triple Bend. Before Dubai was an impressive win in the Grade 1 Malibu Stakes at Santa Anita on December 26th and also in the Grade 2 San Carlos Stakes on February 25th over the likes of Amazombie. He did have an eighth in the Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile at Churchill Downs in November but has looked good, minus the one start overseas, in the last eight months.
Amazombie - Amazombie won the Ancient Title Stakes (G1) at Santa Anita, Breeders' Cup Sprint (G1) at Churchill Downs, Potrero Grande Stakes (G2) at Santa Anita, Sunshine Millions Sprint Stakes at Santa Anita and Tiznow Stakes at Hollywood Park in 2011 and eventually secured the Eclipse Award - a terrific year for trainer Bill Spawr. He also finished third in this race last year. Amazombie is a ten-time winner that has only won one of three starts this year - the Grade 2 Potrero Grande in April. His other two results this year were a third in the San Carlos in February behind The Factor and a second last time out in the Grade 2 Churchill Downs Stakes in May behind Shackleford. Amazombie is highly decorated, is absolutely money at this distance and obviously can't be ignored in any race that he enters.
Capital Account - will be making his graded stakes debut for trainer Bob Baffert after four wins, two seconds and a third place finish in seven career starts including two wins in his last three starts. He won an Allowance last time out over 6 ½ furlongs by an impressive 3 ¾ lengths and despite jumping up in competition could possibly surprise.

Comma to the Top - has won two of his last four starts - both Allowance scores. He finished 19th in last year's Kentucky Derby, was 6th in the Grade 2 Sir Beaufort in December and was third last time out in the Robert K Kerlan Memorial Handicap to name a few of his stakes results. Comma to the Top seems outmatched in this one and will be looking for his first stakes score since an impressive showing in the CashCall back in December 2010.
Don Tito - is no stranger to stakes action. In fact he had finished fifth in four stakes races the last year - the Cool Frenchy Stakes, the Grade 1 Pat O'Brien, the Grade 2 San Diego Handicap and the Grade 2 Potrero Grande Stakes. In his last two starts, both Allowance Optional Claiming races at Hollywood Park, Don Tito has a third place finish and has a win respectively.
