Las Vegas, NV - The Grade 2 John C. Mabee Stakes comes our way this Sunday, August 12 from Del Mar in beautiful Southern California. Fillies and mares three years old and upward will be after their share of the $250,000 purse when they race 1 1/8 miles on Del Mar's turf track.
The John C. Mabee has attracted a strong field of six older females including five graded stakes winners to go in race 8 on Del Mar's Sunday card. Post time is 5:30 PM. Let's take a glance into the past performances of the six combatants ahead of this Grade 2 stakes.
Cambina - won the Grade 1 American Oaks Stakes over a year ago but hasn't been the same since. Cambina finished fifth in the Grade 1 Gamely on May 28 to follow up an impressive second in the Grade 2 Santa Barbara Handicap to Capital Plan. Cambina had a sixth in the Grade 2 Santa Ana Stakes a fifth in the Grade 2 Buena Vista Handicap to start this year and had an eighth place finish at the Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Turf to end 2011. She is coming off a very close second in the Grade 3 Beverly Hill Handicap and is one of the favorites for the Mabee Stakes.
Nereid - has placed in six of her nine career starts but has stumbled lately including a fourth last time out in the Grade 2 Royal Heroine, a sixth in the Grade 1 Gamely Stakes as 2-1 favorite and a fourth in the Grade 3 Wilshire before that. She has yet to place in any of her three starts of 2012 but had three wins including an impressive score at the Grade 1 American Oaks Stakes last July and has raced to two third place finishes in 2011 - the Grade 1 Del Mar Oaks in August and the Grade 1 Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup Stakes in October at Keeneland. Nereid has shown form in the past but has struggled to find it so far this year.
All Star Heart - came into the Royal Heroine absolutely on fire with three straight wins and five wins in six races but she was an uber-disappointing eighth in that race on July 7. She has six career victories in 17 starts and will be out to prove that her last outing was the exception not the rule. Perhaps her most impressive win came in November - the Grade 2 Las Palmas Stakes at Santa Anita. Sandwiched around that impressive win are two victories in minor stakes races including the Redondo Beach Stakes on June 10.

Imperialistic Diva - has seven starts in 2012 and has placed in only one - an Allowance Optional Claiming score at Hollywood Park on May 31. Her last two results were a fourth in the Grade 3 Beverly Hills Handicap on June 24 and a seventh last time out in the Osunitas Stakes here on July 21. Imperialistic Diva has placed in just eight of 19 career starts including three wins.
Go Forth North - has a 2-1-1 record on Del Mar turf in five starts and had a pair of third place finishes overall - the American Beauty Stakes on March 7 and the Grade 2 Palomar Handicap at Del Mar in September 2011 before a sixth last time out in the Grade 3 Wilshire at Hollywood Park. Go Forth North hasn't tasted victory since the Grade 3 Harold Ramser Sr. Handicap in October 2010. She has three wins, two seconds and six third place finishes in 16 career starts.
City to City - is a multiple Grade 2 winner who won the competitive Grade 2 Buena Vista Stakes in February before a rough patch saw her finish fourth in the Grade 2 Santa Ana Stakes, seventh in the Grade 2 Churchill Distaff Turf Mile Stakes, fourth in the Grade 1 Gameley and seventh last time out in the Grade 2 Royal Heroine. City to City has shown good form in the past but enters the Mabee in unflattering form.
