Las Vegas, NV -- Gulfstream Park in sunny Hallandale Beach, Florida is the scene of a stacked racing card this Saturday, February 11th. The marquee event is the Grade 1 Donn Handicap Stakes which features horses Four Years Old and older. A $500,000 purse is up for grabs for a terrific field of 11 that will race 1 1/8 miles on Gulfstream's dirt track.
Included in the field are two of the three winners of last year's Triple Crown and a large contingent of graded stakes winners. The Donn is the first major test for Eastern based older horses and acts as a tune up for the $10 million Dubai World Cup later this year.
Here is a list of the entries and the credentials that brought them into this prestigious race.
The Favorites:
Ruler on Ice - Ruler on Ice had a very good 2011 with a win at the Belmont Stakes and the third place finish in the Breeders' Cup Classic at Churchill Downs to go along with numerous seconds and thirds at multiple graded stakes events. The Donn will mark Ruler on Ice's 2012 debut after finishing 2011 in rather disappointing fashion - a 5th at the Grade 1 Clark handicap at Churchill Downs.

Shackleford - Shackleford is the other Triple Crown winner in the field on Saturday. He won the Preakness Stakes and most recently finished a respectable 2nd in the Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile at Churchill Downs in November. Shackelford has the speed and tends to show up in big races - the Florida Derby is another race that he has won in the last year. Shackleford starts from a difficult Post 9 on Saturday.
Flat Out - Flat Out has had a lot of hype but disappointing results minus the win at Grade 1 Jockey Club Gold Cup. Last year's Breeders' Cup Classic favorite finished fifth in that race and was most recently an unflattering 12th at the Grade 3 Ft. Lauderdale Stakes at Gulfstream on January 14th. A muddy track could help Flat Out however.
The Others:
Trickmeister - Trickmeister is an intriguing entry into the Donn - undefeated in five career starts but taking a giant leap up in competition. Last time out, Trickmeister took the Harlan's Holiday Stakes at Gulfstream on December 17th.
Mission Impazible - won the Grade 2 New Orleans Handicap in March and most recently finished second at the Grade 1 Clark Handicap at Churchill Downs. Mission Impazible has fared well at Gulfstream - a pair of second place finished in the last two starts.
Redeemed - In eight career starts, redeemed has five firsts, two seconds and a third place finish including two wins in the last two starts - the Grade 2 Discovery Handicap at Aqueduct on November 19th and the Oklahoma Derby on October 16th.
Soaring Empire - finished 4th last time out in the Grade 3 Hal's Hope Stakes at Gulfstream on January 14th and prior to that won the Majestic Light Stakes in July.
Sangaree - most recently finished an impressive second in the Grade 3 Hal's Hope Stakes at Gulfstream and before that finished 6th in the Grade 1 Cigar Mile Handicap at Aqueduct.
Al Khali - biggest win came in 2010 at the Grade 2 Bowling Green Handicap and is trained by Eclipse Award winning trainer Bill Mott.
Where's Sterling - has two wins and two seconds at Gulfstream and has two seconds in the last two starts - in an Allowance Optional Claiming on December 23rd at Gulfstream and the Hawthorne Gold Cup Handicap at Hawthorne in October.
Hymn Book - has placed in 11 of 13 career starts and was most recently second at the Cigar Mile Handicap at Aqueduct and first at the Forethorn Stakes at Belmont Park.
The Donn Handicap Stakes is Race 10 on Gulstream's Saturday card with a Post Time of 4:45 PM ET.
