Las Vegas, NV - The Grade 2 Royal Heroine Mile Stakes is slated for this Saturday, July 7th from Betfair Hollywood Park on the Hollywood Gold Cup undercard. Fillies and mare three years old and upward will race one mile on Hollywood Park's main track for their portion of the $150,000 purse.
A very strong field of eight has been named for race 8 on Hollywood Park's Saturday schedule - all eight are stakes winners! Post time is 4:40 PM - right before the Hollywood Gold Cup. Here is a look at all eight entries and their performances ahead of this Grade 2 event.
All Star Heart - comes into the Royal heroine absolutely on fire - three straight wins and five wins in six races. She has six career victories in 16 starts - it is safe to say that All Star Heart is in the best form of her career. Perhaps her most impressive win came in November - the Grade 2 Las Palmas Stakes at Santa Anita. Sandwiched around that impressive win are two victories in minor stakes races including the Redondo Beach Stakes last time out here on June 10th.
Nereid - has placed in six of her eight career starts but has stumbled lately to a sixth last time out in the Grade 1 Gamely Stakes as 2-1 favorite and a fourth in the Grade 3 Wilshire before that. She has three wins including an impressive score at the Grade 1 American Oaks Stakes last July and has raced to two third place finishes since - the Grade 1 Del Mar Oaks in August and the Grade 1 Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup Stakes in October at Keeneland. Nereid has fared very well at Hollywood Park in her career and would like to get back on track here on Saturday.
Quiet Oasis - made her 2012 debut with an impressive win in the Grade 3 Wilshire Handicap on this track on April 29th and followed it up with a very good result - a second in the Grade 1 Gamely Stakes also on this track. She did have a sixth in November in the Grade 1 Matriarch Stake - her only really bad start since 2010.
City to City - is a multiple Grade 2 winner who won the competitive Grade 2 Buena Vista Stakes before a rough patch saw her finish fourth in the Grade 2 Santa Ana Stakes and a disappointing seventh in the Grade 2 Churchill Distaff Turf Mile Stakes this year. Most recently City to City finished fourth in the Grade 1 Gamely Stakes here on May 28th.

Briecat - has five starts in 2012 and after a sketchy start has started to come on a bit with a third in the Redondo Beach Stakes last time out and a second in the Grade 3 Wilshire before that. The beginning of 2012 saw Briecat finish fifth in the Pasadena Handicap on January 15th, 11th in the Grade 2 Buena Vista Handicap on February 20th and fourth at the American Beauty Stakes on March 7th. Briecat does have a decent history at Hollywood Park however - a win in the Cool Air Stakes in December, a win in the Grade 2 Las Palmas Handicap in October 2010, a second in the Swingtime Stakes in October 2010 and that second in the Wilshire.
Ninth Infantry - has won two straight start - both Allowance Optional Claiming - on this track last time out after a seven month layoff and at Santa Anita before that. Ninth Infantry has just one graded stakes start - an eighth in the Grade 2 Palomar Handicap in September at Del Mar. She had a fifth in the minor Osunitas Stakes in the race before that.
Mega Dream - has two starts this year with two resounding victories - an upset win in the Great Lady M Stakes last time out here and an Allowance Optional Claiming at Oaklawn before that. Mega Dream is in the best form of her career and could threaten the favorites on Saturday.
Up in Time - is no stranger to graded stakes action - she has races nine straight with a win in the Grade 3 Harold Ramser Sr. Stakes at Santa Anita in October being the highlight. Up in Time had a second in the Grade 2 Buena Vista Handicap this year but followed that with a disappointing seventh in the Wilshire Handicap at Hollywood Park on April 29th and a fourth last time out in the Grade 1 Just a Game Stakes at Belmont on June 9th.
