Las Vegas, NV -- The 17th running of the world's richest horse race, the Dubai World Cup, goes this Saturday from Meydan Racecourse in the United Arab Emirates. Top horses from the United States, Asia and Europe will vie for a $10 million purse over a distance of 10 furlongs on Meydan's synthetic track.
14 horses will go in the main event with multiple group and graded stakes winners. It should be an entertaining schedule in the United Arab Emirates - eight races with at least 13 entries in each and an enormous purse in all - over $27 million on the day.
Below is a breakdown of all 14 combatants in the Dubai World Cup and the credentials that brought them into the world's richest horse race.
So You Think - is one of the most decorated horse in the field having won eight times at Group or Grade 1 events. It is impressive for sure but So You Think is capable of a bad race as witnessed in the last start - a 6th at the Breeders' Cup Classic on November 5th. The synthetic surface certainly helps and makes So You Think the favorite.

Smart Falcon - is a 20 time stakes winner and is winner of his last nine races! The tapeta surface may be an issue for Smart Falcon who has been racing on dirt. Smart Falcon will hope to carry on what has been a good Japanese tradition at Meydan Racecourse.
Game on Dude - is a multiple Grade 1 winner in the United States. In the States he nearly did enough to capture the Eclipse Award for Outstanding older male. He has two Grade 1 Stakes wins and finished second at the Breeders' Cup Classic at Churchill Downs in November. Game On Dude also won the Grade 1 Goodwood Stakes in October. Chantal Sutherland will get the mount and hopes to become the first woman to win this prestigious event.
Royal Delta - will be looking to become the first filly to win the Dubai World Cup. Royal Delta is the US Champion filly who has done well on synthetic tracks - 2 wins last year on Keeneland Polytrack. But in her last start Royal Delta was beaten by seven lengths and finished second in a Grade 3 race at Gulfstream.
Transcend - finished second in this race last year and recently finished second by a length to Smart Falcon in a Grade 1 race in November.
Eishin Flash - Japanese horse who most recently finished second to superstar Orfevre in a Group 1 race at Nakayama.
Capponi - coming off winning the third round of the Maktoum Challenge but likely doesn't have the speed to contend - races well on synthetic however.
Mendip - won the second round of the Maktoum Challenge and like Capponi likely doesn't have the talent to contend.
Prince Bishop - has finished behind Capponi and Mendip in his last two starts.
Monterosso - finished third in this race last year but finished fourth in his only start this year behind the likes of Capponi.
Zazou - German champion won earlier this month over Cirrus des Aigles but finished third recently in the Hong Kong Cup in December.
Silver Pond - finished second by four lengths to Capponi last time out and shouldn't be considered a contender.
Master of Hounds - comes in a little under the radar having posted a win last time out in the Jebel Hatta and a very respectable second in the UAE Derby.
Planteur - racing out of Ireland, Planteur had some successes in entering 2011 but fell off a bit last year, failing to place in the last 3 races.
Race 9 on Meydan's Saturday card with a Post Time of 1:40 PM ET. *Odds are for North American Pools only*
