2012 Philip H. Iselin Stakes Race Favorites

San Pablo - Todd Pletcher trained colt has placed in 10 of 11 career starts. Three straight wins were followed by a second in the As Indicated Stakes at Aqueduct on February 18 and a second in the Grade 3 Excelsior Stakes at Aqueduct on March 17. That impressive result was followed by a disappointing fourth in the Grade 2 Monmouth Cup and a win last time out in the Birdstone Stakes by three lengths as favorite at Saratoga. San Pablo has six wins in 11 career starts and is the early line favorite for the Iselin despite failing to win a graded stakes race.

Gourmet Dinner - is a multiple stakes winner but hadn't tasted victory since the Jackpot Stakes in November 2010 before a win last time out in the Majestic Light Stakes here on July 29. Before that win Gourmet Dinner was seventh in the Grade 3 Poker Stakes at Belmont and ninth in the Colonial Turf Cup Stakes on June 16.

He also recorded an impressive win in the Decathlon Stakes at here at 12-1 odds on May 12 after a nine month layoff. Ponzi Scheme has eight wins, three seconds and seven third place finishes in 29 career starts.

Small Town Talk - finished third most recently behind Gourmet Dinner and Ponzi Scheme in the Majestic Light Stakes in his stakes debut. Before that he had three wins, a second and two third place finishes in nine Allowance and Maiden Special Weight races.

Eldaafer - last tasted victory in an Allowance a year ago. In 2012 Eldaafer has four starts with a decent second in the Grade 2 Brooklyn Handicap as his only really good result. Last time out was a seventh in the Grade 1 United Nations Stakes here on July 7. He has 37 career starts with 11 wins but his success was much earlier on.

Self Control - Chad Brown trained colt has placed in all five of his 2012 starts - two wins including an Allowance Optional Claiming score last time out and an Allowance at Gulfstream in March. His most impressive result however just may have been a third in the Grade 3 Skip Away Stakes at Gulfstream on March 31.

Toby's Corner - has a pair of thirds in two Grade 2 events in 2012 - the New Orleans Handicap on April 1 and the General George Handicap in February at Laurel Park. Since that time Toby's Corner has finished seventh in the Grade 3 Pimlico Special Stakes, fourth in the Donald Levine Memorial Handicap in June and he won the Mountainview Handicap last time out at Penn National on July 28.
