Las Vegas, NV - The Grade 1 Cotillion Stakes comes our way from Parx Racing just outside of Philadelphia this Saturday, September 22. Three year old fillies will duke it out for the lucrative $1 million purse when they go one and one sixteenth miles on Parx's main track.
A miniscule but talented field of four females will line up in the Cotillion Stakes - most were likely scared off by the talent of the top contender that is Questing. It is race 10 on Parx's Saturday card with a post time of 5:40 PM. Here is a look at all four contenders and the recent performances that brought them to this rich Grade 1 race.
Questing - made her North American debut with a fifth place finish in the Grade 1 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies in November and failed to place in two Allowance Optional Claiming races after that. She has won three straight heading into the Cotillion however - last time out was an easy win in the Grade 1 Alabama Stakes over In Lingerie and Grace Hall by nine lengths to follow another easy win in the Grade 1 Coaching Club American Oaks on July 21 by four and a quarter lengths and an Allowance Optional Claiming score at Belmont Park on June 24. Questing is coming into her own and could sew up three year old filly divisional honors in the Cotillion. She has won all three of her career starts on dirt and is the class of this weekend's field.
My Miss Aurelia - is the reigning Eclipse Award winner for two year old females with wins at the Grade 1 Grey Goose Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies, the Grade 1 Frizette Stakes at Belmont Park and Grade 2 Adirondack Stakes at Saratoga last year. She has only one start in 2012 because of a shin injury but she raced to a win in the Mandys Gold Stakes by three lengths at Saratoga in that start on August 8. My Miss Aurelia now has five career starts and five victories!
Dixie Strike - has won on all three surfaces this year including in the Florida Oaks February 4 at Tampa Bay Downs, the Grade 3 Selene Stakes at Parx Racing on May 13 and the Prince of Wales Stakes on July 15. Dixie Strike has struggled at times this year too - a third in the Grade 3 Herecomesthebride Stakes at Gulfstream on March 11 was followed up by a disappointing fifth in the Grade 1 Ashland Stakes at Keeneland on April 7. She also has a fifth in the Parx Racing Oaks, a third in the Queen's Plate and a disappointing sixth in the Breeders' Stakes last time out at Parx Racing on her resume this year. Inconsistency seems to plague this horse but if she can put it all together Saturday, Dixie Strike could contend.

Moment in Dixie - Lightly raced Moment in Dixie has only four career starts with two wins and two second place finishes all in 2012. She captured a maiden and an allowance at Belmont Park before second-place finishes in the Serena's Song at Monmouth Park and the restricted Summer Guest at Saratoga in her last two.
