Las Vegas, NV -- The 71st running of the Grade 2 San Vicente Stakes takes place Sunday, February 19th from Santa Anita Park in Arcadia, California. A small field of six quality Three Year Olds will be chasing a purse of $150,000 over seven furlongs on Santa Anita's Main track. The San Vicente is not just another Grade 2 Stakes race - it is an important prep for April's $750,000 Santa Anita Derby and more importantly the $2 million Kentucky Derby.
For those of you hoping to get an early glimpse into some horses that could contend for this year's Triple Crown, Santa Anita is the place to be. The San Vicente is the seventh race on Santa Anita's Sunday schedule with a post time of 3:36 PM PST.
Here is a list of the entries and the credentials that brought them to this important prep race.
The Favorites:
Creative Cause - Creative Cause is the most hyped of the Triple Crown contenders in this race having recorded three wins, a second and a third place finish in five career starts. The San Vicente will be Creative Cause's first start since a third place finish at the Breeders' Cup Juvenile at Churchill Downs in November. Prior to that he won the Grade 1 Norfolk Stakes at Santa Anita and the 6 1/2 furlong Best Pal Stakes at Del Mar. Without a doubt, the Mike Harrington colt is the horse to beat.

Drill - Drill raised some eyebrows winning the Del Mar Futurity but has not tasted victory in five races since. Most recently, Drill finished a disappointing fifth as a favorite in the San Pedro Stakes at Santa Anita in January 22nd and ninth in the Grade 1 CashCall Futurity on December 17th. Drill has raced against Creative Cause in the past finishing second in the Norfolk Stakes in October. Other disappointing efforts include at 10th at the Breeders' Cup Juvenile.
The Others:
American Act - broke maiden on January 16th at Santa Anita over the very impressive Bob Baffert trained Bodemeister and finished second in a Maiden Special Weight at Hollywood Park in December. American Act has a win and a place in three career starts.
Let's Get Crackin - most recently finished third in the San Pedro Stakes at Santa Anita on January 22nd and second in the Lost in the Fog Juvenile Stakes at Turf Paradise in December. Let's Get Crackin has two firsts, three seconds and two thirds in nine career starts.
