Las Vegas, NV - Some of the best two year olds in the land will be featured in the Grade 2 Hopeful Stakes this Monday, September 3 from Saratoga in upstate New York. The Hopeful is a seven furlong dash on Saratoga's dirt track for a purse of $300,000.
A group of nine juveniles will line up on Monday for the Hopeful Stakes in race 9 on Saratoga's Monday holiday card. Post time is 4:52 PM. Let's take a glance into the past performances of all nine entries ahead of this Grace 2 event.
Bern Identity - is trained by Kelly Breen and after a second place finish in his first race, he won by a stunning 13 3/4 lengths in wire-to-wire fashion at Belmont on June 1. Vegas No Show - the other Kelly Breen colt expected to do well here. After a third in his debut he won a one mile maiden race at Delaware Park in his second career start. Vegas No Show looked terrific last time out and is certain to give Bern Identity a run.
Shanghai Bobby - was supposed to start as favorite in the Grade 2 Saratoga Special but was scratched prior to with a fever. Now Monday marks his much anticipated graded stakes debut. Todd Pletcher trained Shanghai Bobby has gone two-for-two in his career breaking maiden on April 19 at Aqueduct and following that up with an impressive win last time out in the Track Barron Stakes at Belmont Park on June 27. Shanghai Bobby looks good and should provide some serious completion for the field on Monday.
Lawn Man - is another Todd Pletcher entry, coupled with Shanghai Bobby. He is coming off an impressive four and a half length win over six furlongs at 10/1 odds here on July 28. He was overlooked in his debut but won't be in the Hopeful. Lawn Man is cross entered in the Grade 3 Sapling at Monmouth on Sunday
Overanalyze - yet another Todd Pletcher entry that has also gone one-for-one in his racing career - a Maiden Special Weight score here on August 9. He registered a 101 Speed figure in that race and will have the dependable John Velazquez in the saddle. Overanalyze is also cross entered in the Grade 3 Sapling Sunday.
Fortify - won his debut here by 4 1/2 lengths on August 4. Trainer Kiaran McLaughlin has high hopes for this colt going forward and Monday's race is a great measuring stick.

Show Some Magic - Steve Asmussen colt is the most experienced colt in the field having raced four times and recorded a win and two seconds - the win coming last time out here on August 16. He has already raced against some tough competition and he has looked pretty good in the process so far.
Majestic Hussar - won his career debut here by an impressive 6 1/4 lengths on August 11 and is the offspring of 2007 Hopeful winner Majestic Warrior.
Royal Art - finished third to Overanalyze in his only career start - a Maiden Special Weight here on August 9.
