Las Vegas, NV - The Grade 3 James Marvin Stakes comes our way from Saratoga Race Course this Friday, July 20th - the first day for racing and of Saratoga's summer meet. Horses three years old and upward will dash seven furlongs on Saratoga's main track in search of their share of the $100,000 purse.
The James Marvin has attracted a strong field of seven to go in race 8 on Saratoga' Friday card. Post time is 4:55 PM. Here is a look at the recent results of the seven entries and what we can expect on the first day of racing at historic Saratoga this summer.
Caixa Electronica - Todd Pletcher trained Caixa Electronica has won two big races in his last three starts - the Grade 2 Charles Town Classic Stakes on April 4th and the Grade 2 True North Handicap last time out on June 8th. He also finished an OK fourth in the Grade 1 Metropolitan Handicap on this track on May 28th. He has an incredible 54 career starts but is in the best form of his career going into the James Marvin.
Jackson Bend - is the defending champion in this race but has been up and down so far this year. Jackson Bend has two stakes wins this year - the Grade 3 Hal's Hope Stakes on January 14th and the Grade 1 Carter Handicap at Aqueduct on April 7th. Mixed in among the impressive results in 2012 are a third in the Grade 2 Gulfstream Park Handicap and a disappointing fifth last time out in the Grade 1 Metropolitan Handicap at Belmont on May 28 th. Jackson Bend is a definite contender in this race and would love to repeat in this race while avenging an uncharacteristically poor outing last time out
Crossbow - won two straight Allowance Optional Claiming races at Aqueduct to start his 2012 campaign and followed it up with a fifth last time out in the Grade 2 True North Handicap at Belmont on June 9th. Crossbow has four wins, two seconds and a third place finish in nine career starts.
Golddigger's Boy - has placed in three of four starts in 2012 - three of which came at Parx. He started the year with a third in the Bensalem Stakes, followed it with a win in the Lyman handicap and has posted a third and a second respectively since. The James Marvin will be Golddigger's Boy's first graded stakes action since a fourth in the Grade 2 Kelso in October.

Scotus - won a pair of Allowance Optional Claiming races in the last seven months and has posted three third place finishes in his other three starts over that span - the most notable being a third in the Grade 3 Hanshin Cup Stakes at Arlington in May. Last time out was a third in the Opening Verse Stakes at Churchill Downs on June 9th.
Pacific Ocean - had an impressive win at the Grade 3 Vernon O. Underwood Stakes at Hollywood Park in November before a less than scintillating sixth last time out in the Grade 2 True North Stakes at Belmont on June 9th. Pacific Ocean has four wins and a second place finish in seven career starts.
Zero Rate Policy - ended 2011 in fine form - a win in the Sunshine State Stakes and a second in the Grade 3 Mr. Prospector Stakes but hasn't been the same in 2012. This year Zero Rate Policy has a fourth, a fifth and an eighth last time out - all in minor stakes races.
