Las Vegas, NV - Woodbine Race Track in beautiful Toronto, Ontario will be the scene of the Grade 3 Bessarabian Stakes this Saturday, November 24. Fillies and mares three years old and upward will dash seven furlongs on Woodbine's main track in search of their portion of the $150,000 purse.
A field of 11 has been confirmed for the Bessarabian - race 8 on Woodbine's Saturday card. Post time is 4:41 PM. Let's take a look at the credentials of all 11 combatants and what brought them to this Grade 3 race.
Atlantic Hurricane - is a Canadian champion female sprinter that beat Roxy gap last time out in the Grade 3 Ontario Fashion Stakes three weeks ago. She had a streak of seven wins and two third place finishes in 10 starts earlier this summer including an Allowance over Jenny's So Great on July 6 but endured a slight slump toward the end of the summer - a fifth in the minor Avowal Stakes followed a sixth in the Grade 2 Presque isle Downs Masters September 8. She won last year's Grade 3 Bessarabian Stakes and the Ontario Fashion Stakes and hopes to repeat in the Bessarabian just like she did the Ontario Fashion Stakes last time out. Despite a hiccup tow races back she seems to be back to form.
Roxy Gap - has three wins on this track this summer - the Grade 3 Royal North Stakes, the Grade 2 Hendrie Stakes by two and a half lengths and the Grade 3 Whimsical Stakes on April 22. She also has three seconds - in the Grade 2 Nassau on grass to Marketing Mix June 2, the Sweet Briar Too Stakes on July 7 and the Grade 3 Seaway Stakes two back. Last time out was a third in the Grade 3 Ontario fashion Stakes here November 4 behind Atlantic Hurricane. To say she loves this track is an understatement - she has placed in all eight starts here this year and has been ultra-competitive each and every time out.
Stars to Shine - won the Trillium Stakes and the Grade 3 Ontario Matron Stakes here on July 22 but followed that with a very disappointing ninth in the Grade 1 Beverly D. Stakes at Arlington Park on August 18. She was third in the Canadian Stakes here September 16 but has struggled in her last two outings - a ninth in the Grade 1 E.P. Taylor Stakes two back was followed by an eighth last time out in the minor Maple Leaf Stakes. Stars to Shine has been uncharacteristically poor of late but will be hoping to regain the form that saw her win two straight to start 2012.
Moment of Majesty - won the Zadracarta Stakes at 16-1 odds on June 16 and followed that up with a good second in the Grade 2 Dance Smartly Stakes here on July 8. She recorded another victory on this track in the minor Belle Mahone Stakes August 19 but was a disappointing seventh in the Grade 2 Canadian Stakes. The last two outings have been disappointing as well - a seventh two back in the E.P. Taylor Stakes and a fourth last time out in the minor Maple Leaf Stakes.
Miss Inclined - has 18 career starts with only four wins and five thirds. She won an Allowance Optional Claiming here two back on August 24 and one at Fair Grounds in February but was a distant eighth last time out in the minor Avowal Stakes.
Magic Broomstick - is a multiple stakes winner and is graded stakes placed for trainer Malcolm Pierce. She enters this weekend having won two straight - the minor Avowal Stakes and River Memories Stakes - both on this track.
Forest Uproar - has five starts this year and has failed to place in any of them. Last time out was a seventh in the minor River Memories Stakes here October 27 to follow a pair of fifths - the Indian Maid Handicap and the Belle Mahone Stakes. Forest Uproar has struggled and is a long shot in the Bessarabian.

Actionontwo - has won a couple of Allowance races on this track this year but has fifth place finishes in her only two stakes races - the Grade 3 Ontario Colleen here August 25 and the minor Ruling Angel Stakes here October 13.
Her Smile - Her Smile finished third in the Hurricane Bertie here and before that was third at the Grade Sentient Jet Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Sprint in November 4 behind the likes of Musical Romance. Her last three results have been less than impressive however - a fifth last time out in the Grade 3 Ontario Fashion Stakes followed a fourth in the minor Marta Stakes and a sixth in the Grade 2 Inside Information Stakes at Gulfstream in March. She has been competitive but not lately.
Silent Serenity - will make her graded stakes debut Saturday but is coming off a win in the minor Ruling Angel Stakes here October 13 to follow a Claiming score on this same track. She has four wins and a third place finish in seven starts in 2012 but takes an enormous leap up in competition for the Bessarabian.
Wyomia - is a graded stakes winner but that came back in October 2010. She has just one win since March 2011 but she did finish second in the Grade 1 Ashland in April 2011 and third in the Grade 3 Virginia Oaks in July 2011. She has only two starts this year - a third last time out at Keeneland October 24 and a fourth in the Sara's Success Stakes at Calder in May.
