Dave Bond | OTB Writer

Las Vegas, NV - A couple of huge races are on tap for Woodbine in Etobicoke, Ontario this Sunday, October 14. The 75th edition of the Grade 1 Pattison Canadian International Stakes is one - it will feature horses three years old and upward as they race 1 1/2 miles on Woodbine's turf track in search of their share of the enormous $1.5 million purse and a berth into the Breeders' Cup Turf.

The Pattison Canadian International has drawn a strong field of 11 from all around the world for race 10 on Woodbine's busy Sunday card. Post time is 5:44. Let's take a glance into the past performances of all 11 combatants and what brought them to this lucrative Grade 1 race.

2012 Pattison Canadian International Stakes Race Favorites

Imperial Monarch - Irish bred filly has only four career starts - all overseas. Those starts produced three wins and one eighth place finish two back. He is lightly raced and is coming off an impressive Group 1 Stakes score in Europe. He comes into the Canadian International with a ton of hype and a ton of speed!

Reliable Man - British bred colt has 11 career starts with four wins, a second and two third place finishes. Last time out was a good second in a Group 3 Stakes - the only time he has placed in his last four starts. He won four of his first five career starts and dominated in France for the first 3/4 of 2011. Now the trick is to get back into the top notch form that race fans in Europe became accustomed to.

Joshua Tree - raced in the 2010 edition of this race and won in his first start on North American soil - the only other was a second at the 2011 version of this race. In nine starts this year Joshua Tree has a win (here), two seconds and a third place finish overseas but he has placed in his last three including a win two back in a Group 2 Stakes and a solid third place finish last time out. No horse has a better history at this race than Joshua Tree who could contend once again.

Wigmore Hall - had a rather disappointing trip back overseas earlier this year in which he placed in just one of seven races. He returned to North America to a seventh in the Grade 1 Arlington Millions but followed that up last time out with a repeat win in the Grade 1 Northern Dancer Turf Stakes here September 16. He loves this track as witnessed by his two wins in his last two starts here and should also be in the conversation Sunday.

Dandino - is another in the long line of European invaders for the Canadian International and is coming off a win last time out in a Weight For Age Stakes last time out. He is a former group III winner in Europe and could surprise Sunday.

Air Support - is a multiple graded stakes winner that had a terrific 2011 - two wins, a second and a third place finish in four graded stakes starts. 2012 started slowly however - he had a third two back in an Allowance Optional Claiming at Saratoga on August 6, a close second to Turbo Compressor in the Grade 1 United Nations at Monmouth on July 7 and a second to Turbo Compressor again at the Colonial Turf Cup Stakes at Colonial Downs in June. Last time out he finally broke through for his first win in 2012 at the Grade 2 Bowling Green at Belmont Park. That win put him squarely on the Canadian International radar.

Al Khali - finished third in this race last year and is coming off a good second last time out to Wigmore Hall in the Grade 1 Northern Dancer Turf Stakes to follow another second in the Grade 1 Sword Dancer to Point of Entry at Saratoga August 18. He also had a decent third in the Grade 1 United Nations on July 7. He has had some sketchy results in 2012 as well however - an eleventh in the Woodford Reserve Turf Classic, a sixth in the Grade 1 Manhattan Handicap and a tenth in the Grade 1 Donn Handicap. Al Khali has been knocking on the door his last three starts however and will be looking for a huge breakthrough on Sunday.

Scalo - made his North American debut with a third in the Grade 2 Sky Classic Stakes here on August 19 and followed that with a fourth last time out in the Grade 1 Northern Dancer here a month ago. He had six wins and two second place finishes in 11 starts overseas before the Sky Classic and has looked just OK in his two starts on this track.

Forte Dei Marmi - finished third last time out in the Grade 1 Northern Dancer behind Wigmore Hall and Al Khali to follow an impressive win in the Grade 2 Sky Classic Stakes here on August 19. He has also had a sixth in the Colonial Turf Cup Stakes at Colonial Downs on June 16 and a decent third in the Grade 3 Dixie Stakes at Pimlico in May. Forte Dei Marmi has been a tad inconsistent this year but has looked competitive lately.

Prince Will I Am - is multiple graded stakes placed but has only raced once this year - a sixth in the Grade 2 Bernard Baruch September 1 after a nine month layoff. He had a couple Grade 2 wins at the start of 2012 but has failed to place in his last three starts.

Lay Time - British bred filly makes her North American debut on Sunday but is coming off a win and a second in her last two starts at home - both Weight For Age Stakes races. She has three wins, two seconds and a third place finish in her 11 career starts.
