Las Vegas, NV - The Grade 2 Play the King Stakes is on tap for this Sunday, August 26 from Woodbine Race Track in beautiful Toronto Ontario. Horses three years old and upward will race seven furlongs on Woodbine's turf track for a purse of $200,000.
The Play the King Stakes has attracted a field of 11 to go in race 8 on Woodbine's Sunday schedule. Post time is 4:44 PM. Here is a glimpse into the recent performances of the 11 and what we can expect this Sunday.
Riding the River - has raced exclusively at Woodbine and is coming off two straight Grade 2 wins on this track - the Nijinsky last time out and the King Edward Stakes on June 24. He has 18 career starts with eight wins a second and a third place finish. Other impressive results for Riding the River include the 2011 Grade 2 Play the Kings Stakes - a second behind Havelock. In 2012 before the wins he had a seventh in an Allowance Optional Claiming and a fourth in the Grade 2 Connaught Cup Stakes. If his last two starts are any indication, Riding the River should be in the hunt Sunday.
Big Band Sound - has a streak of four second place finishes on this track going into Sunday's race - the last three being the Grade 2 King Edward Stakes last time out, the Grade 2 Connaught in May and before that the Grade 3 Vigil Stakes. He also has a win in 2012 in an Allowance Optional Claiming to start the season and a fifth in the Turf Dash Stakes at Tampa Bay Downs. Big Band Sound is no slouch and is due to break out this Sunday.
Smokey Fire - is a multiple graded stakes winner that won the Grade 2 Highlander Stakes here on June 24. He also has two fifth place finishes In 2012 after being out of racing October 2010. During that year he won three stakes races including the Grade 2 Play the Kings Stakes. Smokey Fire will be looking to bounce back after an ugly fifth last time out.
Right One - finished second to Upgrade in the Jaipur Stakes and then went on to finish a disappointing fifth last time out in the Grade 3 Poker Stakes at Belmont Park. Right One has 26 career starts for trainer Chris Clement but has just five wins.
Arctic Fern - finished a decent third in the Grade 2 Connaught Cup here on May 27 and has had mixed results since - an eighth in the Grade 2 Highlander on June 24 was followed by a second in the Ontario Jockey Club Stakes. Last time out was a win in an Allowance here on August 8. In 15 career starts Arctic Fern has seven wins including one minor stakes race, two seconds and one third place finish.

Bear Tough Tiger - had a tidy two race win streak in Allowance races end with a fifth in the Grade 3 Vigil Stakes here on May 6. Bear Tough Tiger went on to finish a disappointing sixth in the Grade 2 Highlander but bounced back last time out with an Allowance score here on July 7.
Stormy Rush - finished fifth in the Grade 2 Connaught Cup here on May 27 and fifth in the Grade 2 Highlander on June 24 to follow up a win in an Allowance at Keeneland. Stormy Rush is coming off an OK third last time out in an Allowance but did look decent in finishing third in last year`s Summer Stakes here and in the Grade 3 Bourbon Stakes at Keeneland last October.
Delegation - will make his graded staked debut after just three career starts. He started his career with two straight wins and followed it up with a second last time out in the Mystic Lake Derby at Canterbury Park on July 28.
Jaguar Paw - has raced in eight straight Allowance Optional Claiming races all over North America recording a second last time out and three third place finishes over that span.
Clement Rock - had a streak of four wins in five races in a five month span in 2011 but has only one start in 2012 - a disappointing sixth in an Allowance here on August 6 after a nearly eight month layoff.
Grand Adventure - will make his 2012 debut after a troubling end to 2011 - a tenth in the BC Turf Sprint ended a year in which he failed to place in his last five starts. Grand Adventure did have a second in the Grade 2 Shakertown Stakes in April 2011 and followed that up with a third in the Connaught Cup here but hasn't been great since.
Race 8 on Woodbine's Sunday card with a Post Time of 4:44 PM.
