Las Vegas, NV - The Grade 3 Seaway Stakes comes our way this Saturday, September 1 from beautiful Woodbine in Toronto Ontario. Fillies and mares three years old and upward will be after their share of the $150,000 purse when they dash seven furlongs on Woodbine's main track.
The Seaway Stakes has attracted a small but quality field of five females to go in race 8 on Woodbine's Saturday card. Post time is 4:51 PM. Let's take a look at these five entries and what brought them to this Grade 3 event.
Roxy Gap - has three wins on this track this summer - the Grade 3 Royal North Stakes last time out, the Grade 2 Hendrie Stakes by two and a half lengths and the Grade 3 Whimsical Stakes on April 22. Sandwiched in between the wins is a pair of seconds - in the Grade 2 Nassau on grass to Marketing Mix and at the Sweet Briar Too Stakes on July 7. To say she loves this track is an understatement - she will definitely be in the hunt Saturday although she was beaten as favorite last time she went seven furlongs.
Tu Endie Wei - brings a record of four wins a second and a third in nine career starts into the Seaway - all starts on synthetic tracks. To start out this year, Tu Endie Wei won the six furlong Star Shoot Stakes here on April 14 in impressive fashion by five and a half lengths. This followed up an equally impressive score in the seven furlong Glorious Song Stakes by five lengths in November. Since then she has struggled a bit - a second in the Grade 3 Selene Stakes in May was her best result since the two race win streak. She was a disappointing sixth in the Alywow Stakes June 3, a decent third in the Grade 3 Victory Ride at Belmont July 7 but the was a distant sixth last time out in the Grade 1 Prioress at Saratoga on August 4. Despite some unflattering results, Tu Endie Wei figures to be Roxy Gap's biggest challenge Saturday.
Jenny's So Great - was tenth in the Grade 3 Marshua's River Stakes at Gulfstream January 7 to start 2012 and has had mixed results since. She recorded a fourth in the Grade 3 Endeavour at Tampa Bay in February, followed that up with a pair of sevenths in two minor stakes races and was decent second in an Allowance here on July 6. Last time out was another OK third in the Grade 3 Royal North Stakes.

Zermatt - has three starts this year after finishing seventh in the Grade 3 Bessarabian last October. She started with a second and then had wins in a pair of Allowance Optional Claiming races. Last time out was a third in the Shakespeare Caress Stakes at Saratoga July 30.
Gold Dust Lady - has placed in just two of six Allowance Optional Claiming races this year. She is clearly the long shot in this race.
