Las Vegas, NV - Another week of graded stakes action has come and gone. One track closed for the season and another re-opened for its fall meet. There were some huge underdogs that cashed in and some favorites that fell flat. Here is a look at four of the most intriguing races this week including one Grade 1 and a trio of Grade 3 races.
Del Mar Raceway's summer meet came to a close on Wednesday last week with the 65th running of the Grade 1 Del Mar Futurity for two year olds on Del Mar's all weather track. Bob Baffert trained Rolling Fog closed the meet in style by claiming his first stakes victory at 7-1 odds to give Rafael Bejarano a single-season record, 13 stakes wins at the Del Mar meet, not to mention a record 11th winner by Hall of Famer Baffert in the seven-furlong juvenile test. 8-5 favorite Know More finished second and Sherer Magic finished third. Rolling Fog, now 2-for-2, gained an automatic berth in the $2 million Grey Goose Breeders' Cup Juvenile at Santa Anita Park Nov. 3 with the win.

The Grade 2 Presque Isle Downs Masters took place at Presque Isle Downs on Saturday an featured fillies and mares three years old and upward in a 6 1/2 furlong sprint. The Masters highlighted some incredible runs by a pair of long shots who paid their backers off royally. It was 3-5 favorite Goupie Doll that emerged victorious after a four month layoff and claimed her third straight graded stakes win over 18-1 shot Kitty in a Tizzy who finished second and uber-long shot 96-1 Sally Sally who finished third.

The 1 1/8 mile, $500,000 Grade 2 Super Derby was contested at Louisiana Downs on Saturday for three year olds on Louisiana's Downs main track. It was second choice Bourbon Courage that was much the best in gaining his first stakes win on Saturday. He won by an impressive five lengths over highly regarded Peruvian Grade 1 winner Fly Lexis Fly who finished second in just his second start on American soil. Master Rick finished a surprising third while Rousing Sermon was fourth while 8-5 favorite Blueskiesandrainbows was a distant and disappointing seventh.

Belmont Park re-opened this weekend and hosted the Grade 2 Bowling Green Stakes for three year olds. $200,000 was on the line for those willing to go 1 1/4 miles on Belmont's inner turf track. 7-5 favorite Air Support, coming off a pair of second place finishes and a third last time out chased down pacesetter and 8-1 longest shot in the field Bombaguia who finished 7 1/4 lengths ahead of third place finisher Brilliant Speed.
