Las Vegas, NV - The racing season begins for three year olds on the East Coast for Kentucky Derby hopefuls at Aqueduct this Saturday, January 5 when the Grade 2 Jerome Stakes will be contested. A nice purse of $200,000 will be on the line when the three year olds go one mile and seventy yards on Aqueduct's Inner Track.
A field of eight has been confirmed for the Jerome. It is race 8 on Aqueduct's Saturday card with a post time of 3:48 PM. Here is a look into the past performances of all eight entries ahead of this Grade 2 event.
Notacatbutallama - Todd Pletcher colt is has three wins and three second place finishes in seven career starts - the only time out of the money being a fourth in the Grade 2 With Anticipation Stakes in August. After that result was a very nice second in the Grade 3 Pilgrim and a pair of minor stakes wins in October and November. Last time out was a close second in the Damon Runyon Stakes here December 9. Pletcher will see very quickly if he indeed does have a Kentucky Derby contender on his hands and based on recent performances he just may.
Vegas No Show - Kelly Breen colt expected to do well here. After a third in his debut he won a one mile maiden race at Delaware Park in his second career start. He had a disappointing sixth four back in the Grade 2 Three Chimneys Hopeful at Saratoga but had been much better since - a win in the minor Dover Stakes October 6 and a close second behind Violence in the Grade 2 Nashua Stakes here November 4. However, last time out was a very disappointing ninth in the Grade 2 Remsen. He will be looking for a bounce back on Saturday and will need one in order to be considered a front runner for the Triple Crown.
Vyjack - has only two career starts but has won both on this track - a Maiden Special Weight in his career debut November and the Traskwood Stakes last time out December 9. He stretches out in his graded stakes debut Saturday in a race that he could realistically make some noise.
James Jingle - has six career starts with a win, a second and a third place finish. His last two starts have been arguably his best - a third last time out in the Damon Runyon Stakes and a second before that in the Super Mario Stakes - both results coming on this track.

Amerigo Vespucci - won his first two career starts and has finished second in the other two - all starts coming at Laurel Park. Last time was a second in the minor Marylander Stakes after a second in the James Lewis III Stakes. He has the pedigree and the distance to contend here.
Siete de Oros - has four career starts with two wins (a Maiden Claiming and an Allowance at Parx) and a third place finish which came last time out in the minor Pennsylvania Nursery Stakes at Parx December 8. The Jerome is a huge step up in competition but Siete de Oros has steadily improved over his four career starts.
Long River - Kiaran McLaughlin trained colt broke maiden last time out on this track after a seventh in his debut and a second place finish in his only other career start. He races in stakes company for the first time Saturday.
Mudflats - also broke maiden last time out in his third career start after a fourth in his debut and a third in his second start.
Race 8 on Aqueduct's Saturday card with a Post Time of 3:48 PM.
