Las Vegas, NV - The Grade 1 Acorn Stakes comes our way from a very busy Belmont Park in Elmont, New York this Monday, May 27 on a card in which three Grade 1 stakes will be contested. A purse of $300,000 will be on the line for three year old fillies willing to go one mile on Belmont Park's main dirt track.
A field of six has been confirmed for the Acorn Stakes - race 9 on Belmont Park's ridiculously busy Holiday Monday schedule. Post time is 5:17 PM. Here is a look into the past performances of all six entries for this Grade 1 stakes.
Kauai Katie - impressive Todd Pletcher trained filly has won six of seven career starts including the Matron Stakes at Belmont Park September 30 and the Adirondack Stakes at Saratoga August 12 before that. She was an OK fourth in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies in November but has been on fire of late - three straight wins in 2013 include the Grade 3 Old Hat Stakes January 1, the Grade 2 Forward Gal Stakes January 26 and the minor Road Princess Stakes last time out in gate-to-wire fashion April 21 at Aqueduct. Regular rider John Velazquez gets the mount this week and starts from the rail.
Midnight Lucky - has just three career starts for trainer Bob Baffert - two wins to start her career - by eight lengths in the minor Sunland Park Oaks March 24 after a MSW score by 7 1/4 lengths in her debut February 16. Her graded stakes debut came May 3 in the Grade 1 Kentucky Oaks where she finished fifth after setting the pace.
Close Hatches - made her stakes debut out for legendary trainer Bill Mott and recorded a terrific win in the Grade 2 Gazelle Stakes by 3 1/4 lengths at Aqueduct April 6 after two prior starts resulted in two wins - an Allowance Optional Claiming in wire-to-wire fashion by 1 1/4 lengths at Gulfstream March 10 and a MSW score January 26 also at Gulfstream. Last time out however was a very disappointing seventh in the Grade 1 Kentucky Oaks May 3. She has three wins in four starts and be looking to bounce back after an ugly effort last time out.

Momentary Magic - James Bond trained filly makes her stakes debut Monday after breaking maiden March 17 at Gulfstream and after two other career results resulted in a fifth and a second respectively in a pair of MSW to start her career.
Let Me Entertain U - has seven career starts in her career and has won two of her last four starts - those wins include the minor Beru Stakes March 3 and a MSW in December also at Aqueduct. She also had an OK third in the minor Busher Stakes behind Princess of Sylmar here February 2 and was fifth last time out in the Grade 2 Gazelle Stakes at Aqueduct April 6.
