Las Vegas, NV - Belmont Park in Elmont, New York will be the scene of the Grade 2 New York Stakes this Saturday, June 29. Fillies and mares three years old and upward will be featured as they go 1 1/4 miles on Belmont Park's turf track in search of the winner's share of the $200,000 purse.
A strong field of nine females have been attracted to the New York Stakes which is race 8 on Belmont Park's Saturday card - five of which participated in the Sheepshead Bay Stakes May 25. Post time is 4:45 PM. Here is a brief look into the past performances of all eight entries for this Grade 2 stakes.
Dream Peace - Group 2 winner in France has raced all around the world with mixed results - four wins, two seconds and seven third place finishes in 16 career starts. She has raced to three consecutive third place finishes - last time out in the Grade 3 Beaugay Stakes at Belmont Park May 4, in the Grade 3 E.P. Taylor Stakes at Woodbine back in October (she won the E.P. Taylor in 2011) and in Grade 1 Flower Bowl Invitational in September. She also holds a very good second in the Grade 1 Diana Stakes at Saratoga July 28 and a pair of pedestrian results overseas. Dream Peace has placed in her last four starts overall and is the morning line favorite for the New York Stakes at 5-2.
Lady of Shamrock - is a five time stakes winner (two Grade 1 scores) coming off a third in the Grade 1 Gamely Stakes at Hollywood Park May 27 after a win in the Grade 2 Santa Barbara Handicap and a second as even money favorite in the Grade 2 Santa Ana Stakes March 24 behind Tiz Flirtatious. Before that was her worst career performance - a fifth in the Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Turf in November. She finished a close second in the Honeymoon Handicap on June 9 to My Gi Gi and then bounced back with a terrific wins in the Grade 1 American Oaks July 14 and the Grade 1 Del Mar Oaks August 18 before the Breeders' Cup. She has placed in all three starts in 2013 - a win, a second and a third place finish and has proven not to be scared about saddling up with the best in the land. She races outside of California for the first time since 2011 Saturday and is the morning line second choice.
Tannery - made her North American debut in the Grade 1 Garden City Stakes at Belmont Park September 15 and finished a very respectable third. She followed that with a distant eighth in the Grade 1 Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup at Keeneland October 13 and ended 2012 with a fourth in the Grade 3 Long Island Handicap in November. She has raced just twice in 2013 - a fourth in the minor Owsley Stakes here May 1 but followed that with her best career performance last time out - a win in the Grade 2 Sheepshead Bay Stakes at Belmont Park May 25 over Anjaz, Minakashi and a host of her more well known New York Stakes combatants.
Starformer - Bill Mott trained filly is a graded stakes winner that that enters having won two of four starts - the Grade 3 Long Island Handicap at Aqueduct in November and the Grade 3 The Very One Stakes at Gulfstream in February. Last time out was her worst career effort however - an ugly eighth after fading badly in the Grade 2 Sheepshead Bay Stakes at Belmont Park May 25 after a fifth in the Grade 3 Orchid Stakes at Gulfstream March 30. She has five wins, two seconds and three third place finishes in 16 career starts. Hopes are that her Sheepshead result was an exception, not the rule!

Regalo Mia - is coming off an OK second in the Grade 3 Bewitch Stakes at Keeneland April 25 after an impressive win in the Grade 3 Orchid Stakes March 30 and a win in the Sunshine Millions Filly and Mare Stakes January 19 - both wins at Gulfstream. She ended 2012 with her only off-the-board finish - an ugly ninth in the Grade 2 Mrs. Revere at Churchill Downs in November. Regalo Mia has three wins, four seconds and three third place finishes in 11 career starts.
Minakshi - had a win and a second place finish in her native France before shipping to North America. In here only two starts in the States Minakshi was second in the minor Owsley Stakes May 1 and followed that with a very respectable third after setting the pace last time out in the Grade 2 Sheepshead Bay Stakes at Belmont Park May 25. She is 8-1 on the morning line but is certainly capable of a big race Saturday.
Mystical Star - is the defending champion in this race June 30 over Hit It Rich but hasn't tasted victory since. She had a good second in the Grade 1 Juddmonte Spinster in October and was second in the Grade 3 Long Island Handicap at Aqueduct November 10 and then went on to a third in the Grade 3 Hillsborough at Tampa Bay Downs March 9. Last time out was a fifth in the Grade 2 Sheepshead Bay behind a host of her New York Stakes competitors after a fourth as favorite in the Grade 3 Doubledogdare Stakes at Keeneland April 19. She starts from the rail at 10-1 odds.
Anjaz - had seven starts in Britain with three wins and a third place finish before making her North American debut- a fourth in the Grade 3 Orchid Stakes at Gulfstream March 30. In her only other start in the Stakes Anjaz was an impressive second ahead of Minakashi and behind tannery in the Grade 2 Sheepshead Bay Stakes at Belmont Park May 25. She is 12-1 on the morning line and could be in deep against a very good field.
