Las Vegas, NV - The Grade 2 Best Pal Stakes comes our way this Sunday, August 4 from Del Mar racetrack in beautiful Del Mar, California. Some of the best two year olds in the land will take to the track and dash seven furlongs for a purse of $150,000.
A field of seven two year olds will take to the track in the Best Pal which is race 8 on Del Mar's Sunday card. Post time is 5:40 PM. Let's take a glance onto the past performances of all seven potential future Triple Crown contenders entered in this Grade 2 stakes.
Alpine Luck - Mike Harrington trained colt has four career starts and is coming off a stakes win - the Hollywood Juvenile Championship at Hollywood Park over Ontology who is also entered in the Best Pal July 13 after breaking maiden in June. He started his career with two third place finishes - both MSW at Hollywood Park. Alpine Luck is the 123 pound high weight and will have legendary Gary Stevens in the saddle Sunday. He is the likely favorite based on his form against some good competition.
Ontology - finished second last time out to Alpine Luck in the Hollywood Juvenile Championship Stakes at Hollywood Park July 13 after another second in his debut - a MSW also at Hollywood Park June 22. He wears blinkers for the first time Sunday, has looked terrific in workouts ahead of the Best Pal and will have Rafael Bejarano guiding him.
Skydreamin - Jeff Bonde trained colt has two starts in his career - both stakes wins! Last time out he won the Everett Nevin Stakes at Pleasanton July 7 after a win in his debut in the Lost in the Fog Stakes at Golden Gate June 15. He is the only other stakes winner beside Alpine Luck and figures to be one of the favorites Sunday.
Alberts Hope - has just one career start for trainer Mike Puype and it was a win - a MSW score in front running fashion by two lengths at Hollywood Park July 14. He has shown good form in the leadup to the Best Pal and could emerge Sunday.
