2013 Bing Crosby Stakes Race Favorites

Goldencents - may have been the biggest disappointment of the Kentucky Derby with his seventeenth place finish as one of the favorites. Although he was a pedestrian fifth last time out in the Preakness, he has proven to be a contender in the past - a win in the Grade 1 Santa Anita Derby March 6 as part of three wins in four starts showed that he has what it takes against top competition. He also has wins in the Delta Downs Jackpot and Sham Stakes on his résumé. He will race for the first time since the Preakness looking to erase the memory of a disappointing Triple Crown run for trainer Doug O'Neill. He has evidently looked terrific in training leading up to the Bing Crosby and although he faces older horses for the first time has to be considered the favorite Sunday.

Comma to the Top - Grade 1 winner and Peter Miller trained gelding has won six of his last 12 starts and will be back to avenge a fourth place finish in this race last year. He won an Allowance at Golden Gate last June 9, the minor Pirate's Bounty Stakes at Del Mar September 5, the Big Bear Handicap at Santa Anita October 21 in wire-to-wire fashion, the Grade 3 Daytona Stakes at Santa Anita December 29 again in gate-to-wire style, the Grade 3 Tom Fool Handicap at Aqueduct March 2, the minor Cool Frenchy Stakes May 4 and the Grade 3 Lost Angeles Handicap May 27 - he knows what it takes to win. Last time out was a nice second in the Grade 1 Triple Bend Handicap at Hollywood Park June 29. Over that span he also has four fourths. He has won two of his last three starts with a second place finish in that time and should be considered a contender for the Bing Crosby.

Jimmy Creed - made his graded stakes debut with a respectable third in the Grade 1 Santa Anita Sprint October 6 ahead of Amazombie after two wins and two seconds in four career previous starts including a second in the minor El Cajon Stakes behind Fed Biz August 31. He followed that with a disappointing ninth in the Breeders' Cup Sprint but was terrific after that with two straight wins - the Grade 1 Malibu Stakes December 26 and the Grade 2 Potrero Grande April 6. Last time out was a step back however - an eighth as favorite in the Grade 1 Triple Bend at Hollywood Park June 29. He has four overall victories in nine career starts for trainer Richard Mandella and is the 123 pound high weight for the Bing Crosby. He gets a new rider in the Bing Crosby - Rafael Bejarano will be in the saddle.

Majestic City - Ron Ellis trained colt has placed in just three of his last eight starts but endured a seven month layoff between last June and May of this year. He had a pair of sixths in minor stakes action before the layoff and returned to an OK fourth in the Grade 3 Los Angeles Handicap May 27. Last time out was a second in Paynter's return to the track in an Allowance at Hollywood Park June 14. He had three straight wins to start his career including the Grade 3 Hollywood Juvenile Championship, a third in the Grade 1 Del Mar Futurity and a second in the Grade 1 Dixiana Futurity but hasn't tasted victory since July 2011 - Majestic City will be hard pressed to break that streak this week.

Coach Bob - made his graded stakes in the Grade 3 San Francisco Mile April 27 and finished a very disappointing ninth and followed that with a fourth in an Allowance at Hollywood Park. Last time out was an OK second in the minor Casual Lies Handicap at Pleasanton July 4. In his other five starts this year he won an Allowance Optional Claiming March 31 after a pair of fourths including the minor Sensational Star Stakes at Santa Anita February 24. He has 24 career starts with four wins, four seconds and three thirds.

Points Offthebench - Tim Yakteen trained gelding makes his stakes debut Saturday having raced six times in his career placing in all - four wins, a second and a third place finish. He enters having raced three times this year and on a two race win streak - Allowance Optional Claimings at Hollywood Park May 27 and at Santa Anita April 6.
