Las Vegas, NV - Del Mar racetrack in beautiful Del Mar, California will play host to the Grade 1 Debutante Stakes this Saturday, August 31. Two year old fillies will be featured in this seven furlong dash as they chase the winner's share of the $300,000 purse.
The Del Mar Debutante has attracted a field of eight two year old females to go in race 9 on Del Mar's Saturday schedule. Post time is 6:10 PM. Here is a brief glance into the credentials of all eight entries for this Grade 1 stakes - three of which are trained by the legendary Bob Baffert.
Concave - Doug O'Neill trained filly has just two career starts with two wins - the last one coming in impressive fashion in the Grade 2 Sorrento Stakes at Del Mar August 7. This after a MSW score at Betfair Hollywood Park July 12. Concave is yet another Doug O'Neil prospect that has some solid results already behind her as we start determining the best two year old prospects. She will hope to hold off She's a Tiger again but a duel is likely like in the Sorrento. Concave departs from post 3.
She's a Tiger - half sister to Smiling Tiger will race for the fourth time for trainer Jeff Bonde and is coming off an OK second in her graded stakes debut behind Cocave in the Grade 2 Sorrento here August 7 after a win in her stakes debut - at the minor Landulace Stakes over E Equalsmcsquared at Hollywood Park July 13. She broke maiden by an impressive nine lengths in her only other career another one everyone is gunning for Saturday. She starts from post 6 and will wear blinkers for the first time in the Debutante - with the legend Gary Stevens guiding her!
Sprouts - Edward Freeman trained filly started her career with a fifth in a MSW in April but since has reeled off three straight wins - two stakes scores in a row including the minor California Breeders' Association Stakes last time out on this track and the minor Cinderella Stakes at Hollywood Park in June. She may not be the biggest name in the field but her results speak for themselves.
Awesome Baby - likely Bob Baffert's best chance at winning this race for the eighth time. She has just one career starts and it was a good one - a MSW score by 4 3/4 lengths with a Beyer Speed Figure of 85 (best in the field) on this track August 4. Martin Garcia, who is having quite a year gets the mount Saturday.

Secret Compass - another Bob Baffert pupil has two career starts. She started her career with a fourth in a MSW at Hollywood Park but was victorious last time out on this track July 28. She drew the far outside post and will have Joe Talamo in the saddle.
Fascinating - Bob Baffert trained filly has two career starts with similar results. The half sister to Bodemeister finished third in both MSW races in her career - both on this track in the last two months - one coming August 10 behind Bajan and Southern Sunshine. Mike Smith gets the mount on Fascinating Saturday.
Bajan - has two career starts for trainer Simon Callaghan - a second in her first career start in a MSW at Hollywood Park July 14 and a nice win last time out by a nose over Southern Sunshine and Fascinating on this track August 10.
Southern Sunshine - has two career starts for trainer Peter Miller - both at Del Mar. Last time out was an OK unlucky second behind Bajan after dictating the pace August 10 after a fourth in her debut July 21.
