2013 Marshua's River Stakes Race Favorites

Heavenly Landing - started out 2012 with a bang - a win in the last year's version of the Marshua's River Stakes on January 7 and then mixed results. She looked good in finishing second in the Grade 3 Mint Julep at Churchill Downs on June 2 and at the Grade 3 Eatontown Handicap on June 30 but followed that result with a disappointing fifth in the Grade 2 Ballston Spa. Last time out was an Allowance score at Keeneland October 5. Heavenly Landing has been in with some tough competition in the past and based on her bounce back Allowance score last time out, she absolutely has to be in the conversation for Saturday's tilt.

Leading Astray - has eight career starts with five impressive wins including the Grade 3 Pucker Up Stakes at Arlington Park on September 15 and the Hatoof Stakes before that. Her last two starts have also been good for trainer Chris Block - a second last time out in the Grade 2 Mrs. Revere at Churchill Downs November 17 and a third before that in the Grade 3 Pin Oak Valley View Stakes at Keeneland. Leading Astray has been in the money every time out and is certainly a threat in the Marshua's River.

Marshua's River Stakes 2013 | Remaining Field Entries

Frolic's Revenge - is a multiple stakes winner that had three starts here early in 2012 with a pair of sevenths in the Grade 2 Herecomesthebride Stakes in March and the Davona Dale Stakes. Since then she has nine starts all at Calder with four wins and a pair of seconds - none of the graded stakes variety however. Last time out was a win in an Allowance November 29 after a second in the minor Frances A. Genter Stakes in October. Frolic's Revenge is very competitive but takes a step up in competition for the Marshua's River.

Hard Not to Like - made her 2012 debut with a good second place finish in the Grade 1 Ashland Stakes at Keeneland on April 7 after a good juvenile campaign. Her only other start of 2012 came back in May - a sixth in the Grade 1 Kentucky Oaks. Hard Not to Like won three of her first four career starts at Woodbine but has been lightly raced since her successes.

Chokurei - Irish bred mare had a decent career overseas before shipping to North America where she has had a pair of seconds in minor stakes action (one coming last time out on this track December 9- a second to Romacaca in the South Beach), a third place finish and a sixth in her North American debut - the Belle Mahone Stakes at Woodbine October 19.

Fantasy of Flight - Richard Dutrow filly had a very nice 9 3/4 length win in an Optional Claiming race in October after a less-than-impressive ninth in the Grade 1 Humana Distaff at Churchill Downs way back in May. Last time out was a pedestrian fifth in the Grade 2 Go for Wand Handicap at Aqueduct November 23.

Affair Dabbler - raced 13 times in 2012 and recorded three wins - all Allowance scores. Last time out was a distant tenth in the South Beach Stakes here December 9 after an eighth in the Grade 3 Cardinal Handicap at Churchill Downs November 10. Affair Dabbler has four wins, two seconds and two third place finishes in 17 career starts.

Channel Lady - Todd Pletcher filly makes her graded stakes debut after five career starts yielded three wins and a second place finish. Last time out was a nice win in the minor Stardusk Stakes at Aqueduct November 21 after a second in the Pebbles Stakes at Belmont in October.

Frontside - had a couple of minor stakes wins in the summer but has posted two straight eighth place finishes in her last two starts - the South Beach Stakes here last time out and the Mr. Penny Stakes at Parx back in September.

Filare l`Oro - will make her graded stakes debut on Saturday but she does have a trio of fourth place finished in her three minor stakes starts - the last being the Walking in Da Sun Stakes at Delaware Park on July 11. She does have a pair of good seconds the last six months as well - the Grade 3 Virginia Oaks July 21 and the minor Christiana Stakes September 15. In 16 career starts Filare l'Oro has just three wins and five second place finishes.
