Las Vegas, NV - Hasting Racecourse in beautiful Vancouver, British Columbia will be the scene of the Grade 3 BC Premier's Handicap Monday, October 14 - Thanksgiving Day in Canada. Horses three years old and upward will be featured as they go on and three eighth miles on Hastings' dirt track for a purse of $100,000.
A field of nine has been confirmed for the BC Premier's Handicap - race 7 on Hastings Holiday Monday card. Post time is 4:50 PM. Here is a brief look into the past performances of all nine combatants for this Grade 3 stakes.
Title Contender - Anita Bolton trained gelding has had some truly terrific results and some poor ones as well. On July 27 he won the Grade 3 Ohio Derby at Thistletown but followed that up with a distant eleventh in the Grade 3 Canadian Derby at Northlands Park August 17. Last time out was a huge bounce back effort - a win in the Grade 3 British Columbia Derby by 4 3/4 lengths at 10-1 odds on this track September 8. He has raced some other huge races with sketchy results - an eighth in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile, an eleventh in the Grade 1 CashCall Futurity and a seventh in the Grade 3 Rebel Stakes. He has two wins, a second and a third place finish in seven starts this year and has won two of his last three graded stakes tries with an eleventh sandwiched in there. He faces older horses for the first time Monday and will have Rico Walcott aboard from post 4 as the likely favorite.
Shooting Jacket - had a decent third in his graded stakes debut- the Grade 3 Canadian Derby at Northlands Park August 17 after a minor stakes score on this track in July - the Chris Loseth Handicap. Last time out was a fifth in the Grade 3 British Columbia Derby here September 8. He also had a third in the minor River Rock Casino Handicap in June after a MSW score here in May. He started his career in Britain where he failed to place in five starts. He starts from post 8 with Frank Perez Fuentez in the saddle and is expected to contend Monday.
Commander - is the defending champion in this race and has gone on to place in six of eight starts since - the only off the board finishes coming in the Breeders' Cup Marathon when he finished ninth and the minor John Longden 6000 Stakes in May. He enters this weekend having won three of his last four starts - a second behind Wilo Kat last time out in the minor S.W. Randall Plate September 8 followed three straight wins - the Westerner Handicap, the Fred Jones Handicap and the Spangled Jimmy Handicap - all minor stakes action at Northlands Park this summer. Commander is the 122 pound highweight in the field and will be looking to continue his solid form in a race he won last year.
Wilo Kat - finished fourth in the 2012 edition of this race but has placed in his last six starts ahead of this year's BC Premier's Handicap. Last time out was a win over Commander on this track in the minor S.W. Randall Plate September 8 after a third in the British Columbia Cup Classic Handicap August 5 and three straight seconds including the minor Sir Winston Churchill Handicap here in June and the minor Lieutenant Governor's Handicap in July. He is another entry that comes into the weekend racing very well and could surprise the field Monday.
Jebrica - Washington bred gelding finished third in the minor Mt. Rainier Handicap July 21 after a terrific win in the Budweiser Handicap in June. He went on to an OK third in the Grade 3 Longacres Mile at Emerald Downs August 18 and since had a pair of thirds - the minor Muckleshoot Tribal Classic at and an Allowance both at Emerald Downs. He finished second in this race last year behind Commander - the only time he's placed in his last three graded stakes starts and he did win this race in 2011. Jebrica has six wins, three seconds and six thirds in 24 career starts.

Iscar has 25 career starts for trainer Dino Condilenios with six wins, three seconds and three third place finishes - the bulk of those showings coming the last 14 months. He is the 112 pound lightweight and hopes to break through in his graded stakes debut.
Brass and Gold - won the minor British Columbia Cup Classic on this track August 8 and followed that with a third last time out behind Wilo Kat and Commander in the minor S.W. Randall Plate here September 8. He steps into graded stakes company for the first time Monday having recorded three wins, three seconds and two third place finishes in 17 career starts.
Toccetive - won the Grade 3 Canadian Derby last year and followed that win a win in the minor Speed to Spare Stakes last September. He took eight months off and struggled to three straight sixth place finishes upon his return. Last time out was better however - a second in the Speed to Spar Stakes at Northlands Park and a third before that in the minor Westerner Stakes. He races for the first time outside Northlands Park this Monday having recorded four wins, four seconds and five third place finishes in 18 career starts.
Senor Rojo - David Forster trained gelding is coming off a 2 1/4 length win in the minor Speed to Spare Stakes at Northlands Park September 2 after a second in the minor Westerner Handicap on that same track in August and a third in the minor Fred Jones Handicap August 3. He won this race in 2010 and enters this year having won twice, finished second twice and third once in his last five starts overall.
