A field of eight has been confirmed for the Citation - race 7 on Hollywood Park's Friday schedule. Post time is 3:30 PM. Here is a brief glance into the past performances of all eight entries for this Grade 2 stakes.
Silentio - made his stakes debut with a terrific win in the Grade 2 Sir Beaufort Stakes at Santa Anita December 26 and followed that with an OK third in the Grade 2 Arcadia Stakes at Santa Anita February 2, a nice second in the Grade 1 Frank E. Kilroe Mile also at Santa Anita March 3 and a disappointing fifth in the Grade 1 Maker's 46 Mile April 12. Last time out was a respectable third in the Breeders' Cup Mile at 31-1 odds after another third in the Grade 2 Del Mar Mile August 25. He has placed in four of five starts this year and in eight of nine career starts but will be looking for his first win since December Saturday in his first ever start at Hollywood Park. As the co-highweight at 119 pounds, Silentio breaks from the 7 post under Rafael Bejarano.
Winning Prize - multiple Grade 1 winner and Argentinean bred colt had eight starts at home with five wins and a second place finish including two straight wins (the Grade 1 Joaquin S. de Anchorena in December being the last). He has just two starts since - an Allowance Optional Claiming score in his North American debut at Del Mar August 22 after a nine month layoff and an OK fourth last time out in the Grade 1 Shadwell Turf Mile October 5 at Keeneland. Winning Prize will also carry 119 pounds and will have Corey Nakatani aboard.
He Be Fire N Ice - John Sadler pupil has won four of nine starts this year (five of 15 career) and had a tidy three race win streak earlier this year - the minor California Dreamin' Handicap July 21 after a couple of Allowance scores at Hollywood Park. He since has a pair of seconds in his only graded stakes starts - the Grade 2 City of Hope Mile behind No Jet Lag and the Del Mar Mile behind Obviously August 25. He broke a string of five races in which he was first or second with a disappointing eighth last time out in the Breeders' Cup Mile. He Be Fire N Ice is another in the line of impressive entries looking to bounce back from a disappointing outing and could do so on a track that he has won two of three races in his career.
Summer Front - Christophe Clement trainee is coming off a disappointing seventh in the Grade 1 Shadwell Turf Mile after two terrific graded stakes wins - in the Grade 3 Matchmaker at Monmouth Park August 25 and in the Grade 3 Miami Mile at Calder in April, a third in an Allowance Optional Claiming in March and a brief layoff. He ended 2012 with a sixth in the Grade 1 Hollywood Derby on this track after a pair of thirds in Grade 1 races - the Jamaica and the Secretariat Stakes. He also had a win in the Grade 3 Hill Prince over Howe Great and the minor Duluth Stakes last year. Summer Front had looked terrific before his last outing - something he hopes to avenge this Friday.
