Las Vegas, NV - Indiana Downs in Shelbyville, Indiana will be the scene of the Grade 2 Indiana Derby this Saturday, October 5. Three year olds will be featured in this 1 1/16 mile race as they chase the winner's share of the $200,000 purse on Indiana Downs' dirt track.
A full field of 12 has been confirmed for the Indiana Derby - plus three Alternate Entries. It goes off as race 11 on Indiana Downs' Saturday card with a post time of 6:50 PM. Here is a brief glance into the past performances of all 15 potential combatants for this Grade 2 stakes. This year's edition of the Derby will be run at Indiana Downs for the first time as the previous Derby's have been run at Hoosier Park.
Power Broker - Bob Baffert trained colt had an impressive score in last year's Grade 1 FrontRunner Stakes by 6 1/2 September 29 after a good second in the Oak Tree Juvenile September 5. He went on to a pair of fifths - in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile and the Grade 1 Santa Anita Derby in April. Since then he has recorded two straight wins - in the minor Easy Goer Stakes by 3 3/4 lengths at Belmont Park, an Allowance in May at Churchill Downs and a good second last time out in the Grade 1 Haskell at Monmouth Park July 28. Power Broker has three wins, two seconds and a third place finish in nine career starts and enters in some very good form. Power Broker has been instilled as the 3-1 favorite and leaves from post 6 with Martin Garcia in the saddle.
Uncaptured - Mark Casse trained colt ended 2012 with a bang with wins in the Grade 3 Iroquois and the Grade 2 Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes and has been good this year as well with a win, three seconds and a third in six starts in five starts - the lone poor performance came in the Grade 1 Blue Grass Stakes when he finished tenth. Last time out was a troubled third in the Grade 3 Smarty Jones Stakes at Parx September 2 after a win in the minor Prince of Whales Stakes at Fort Erie and a second to Code West in the Grade 3 Matt Winn Stakes at Churchill Downs in June. He has an impressive seven wins and three seconds and a third place finish in 13 career starts and has reportedly been training well ahead of the Indiana Derby. Uncaptured drew post-position 8 and was made the 9/2 morning line second choice.
Micromanage - Todd Pletcher trained colt raced in graded stakes company for the first time in 2013 July 28 and finished an OK third behind Verrazano and Power Broker in the competitive Grade 1 Haskell after a fifth in the Grade 1 Champagne Stakes in October and a tenth in the Grade 2 Remsen in November. He has three other starts this year - an Allowance Optional Claiming score May 11 at Monmouth Park after nearly six months away, a second in the minor Easy Goer Stakes behind Power Broker at Belmont Park June 8 and a nice win in the minor Long Branch Stakes July 7. Last time out was a fifth in the Grade 3 Smarty Jones at Parx September 2. He has three wins, a second and a third place finish in eight career starts and enters in so-so form. Midnight Taboo - Todd Pletcher trained colt raced to a twelfth in the Belmont Stakes after a win and a pair of seconds in her leadup to that race. Since then he has raced just a pair of Allowance recording a win last time out at Saratoga August 17 and a fourth July 28 on that same track. He will have Ricardo Santana Jr. in the saddle.
Edge of Reality - Anthony Dutrow trainee made his graded stakes debut and won, in impressive style the Grade 3 Smart Jones at Parx September 2 after a third place finish in his stakes debut - the minor Curlin Stakes at Saratoga July 26. Before that was a pair of Allowance scores also at Parx. He has four career wins in seven starts - all of which are at Parx and is being sent off at 5-1 odds on Saturday.
Ruler of Love - won the minor Kentucky Downs Juvenile Stakes last September and has been up and down since. Last time out was a good second in the Grade 2 Super Derby after another second in the Grade 2 West Virginia Derby August 3 behind Departing, an OK third in the minor Coach Jimi Lee Stakes at Arlington Park July 13 and an ugly seventh in the minor Centaur Stakes June 15. He had a couple good results in April - a third in the Grade 3 Derby Trial Stakes and a second in the minor Ocala Breeders' Sales Sophomore Stakes as well. He has placed in five of his last six starts but hasn't tasted victory since the KD Juvenile in September. He has been knocking on the door and is being sent off at 8-1 odds.
Mr. Palmer - entered the Wood Memorial on a two race win streak for trainer Bill Mott - the minor Private Terms Stakes at Laurel Park March 9 and a MSW before that February 17. He finished an OK fourth in the Wood Memorial and will be looking for a strong bounce back this week. He has two wins, a second and a third place finish in eight career starts - all of those results coming in his last five starts overall. Mr. Palmer will take to the track for the first time since April in arguably career best form at 10-1 odds.

Bad Hombre - John Kimmel trained colt has two wins and three seconds in his last six starts - they are the only times he has placed in his 10 career races. But last time out was a huge step backward - an eleventh in the Grade 1 King's Bishop Stakes at Saratoga August 24. He had a respectable second in the minor Curlin Stakes July 26 to follow an Allowance score at Belmont Park July 6 and a maiden win in his seventh career start - May 5 at Belmont Park. He looked good this summer before his ugly outing last time out. He is listed at 12-1 odds and will have Mike Luzzi in the reigns.
Holy Lute - James Cassidy trained colt has just three career starts but is coming off a nice win in his stakes debut - the minor El Cajon at Del Mar August 30 after a MSW score August 10 and a third in a MSW in July. He leaves with jockey David Flores guiding him at 12-1 odds.
Take It Like a Man - has 12 career starts with six wins, a seconds and a third place finish but enters having won five of his last six starts - the biggest coming last time out in the minor Researcher Stakes at Charles Town September 21. With six career wins and five in the last six starts overall it is safe to assume the Take It Like a Man enters in some very good form. He steps up in company Saturday at 12-1 odds.
Fordubai - has four wins and two second place finished in eight career starts for trainer Greg Geier. He enters the Indiana Derby in a two race win streak - last time out in the minor Straight Line Stakes at Arlington Park August 17 and an Allowance Optional Claiming on that same track in July. Before that was an uncharacteristic twelfth in the Grade 3 Arlington Classic in May after a good second in the Grade 3 Illinois Derby in April. He has been up and down in graded stakes action but enters this weekend in good form. He is an intriguing 15-1 shot for the Indiana Derby.
Bradester - Eddie Keneally trained colt has four career starts with two wins and two seconds but steps up into stakes company for the first time. Last time out was a second in an Allowance Optional Claiming August 24 after a 7 1/2 month layoff and an Allowance Optional Claiming score in January. He is the longest shot in the field at 20-1 odds.
Miraculousmo -Alternate Entry and Dale Romans pupil has just three career starts - a MSW score at Saratoga July 20 after a fourth in a similar race in his debut May 11. Last time out was a disappointing stakes debut - an eighth in the Grade 1 King's Bishop Stakes at Saratoga August 24.
Ground Transport - Alternate Entry has six career starts with two wins and a second place finish -an Allowance Optional Claiming score February 23 and a MSW win January 19 to go along with a second in a MSW in his debut in December. He has failed to hit the board in his last two starts however - an eighth last time out in the minor Straight Lines Stakes followed a ninth in the Grade 3 Illinois Derby in April.
Skilltopaythebills - Alternate Entry has yet to taste victory in 13 career starts but has placed in his last two MSW starts overall - a third September 2 and a second August 25 - both results at Ellis Park
