Las Vegas, NV - The Grade 1 Molly Pitcher Stakes is on tap for this Sunday, July 28 from Monmouth Park in Oceanport, New Jersey as part of the Haskell Invitational undercard. Fillies and mares three years old and upward will take to the track and race 1 1/16 miles on Monmouth Park's dirt track for a purse of $200,000.
A group of six older females will line up in the Molly Pitcher - race 6 on Monmouth Park's stacked Sunday schedule. Post time is 2:22 PM. Let's take a brief glance into the past performances of all six entries for this competitive Grade 2 stakes.
Joyful Victory - In 10 starts since January 2012 Joyful Victory has been at or near the top of every race she has entered for trainer Larry Jones except for last time out - an uncharacteristic fifth as even money favorite in the Grade 1 Ogden Phipps at Belmont Park May 27. She began 2013 with two starts and two wins - in the Grade 1 Santa Margarita Stakes at Santa Anita March 16 and at the minor Houston Ladies Classic at Sam Houston January 26. She ended her 2012 campaign with three second place finishes and two thirds - all graded stakes races. She has placed in 11 of 12 starts in the last two years and races around a far more comfortable two turn Sunday. She will break from the far outside post as co-top weight of 123 pounds with Rosie Napravnik in the saddle.
Funny Proposition - Mark Casse trained filly is coming off her career best effort - a win in the Grade 2 Fleur de Lis Handicap at Churchill Downs June 15 after an Allowance Optional Claiming score on that same track May 17. Her other graded stakes results were disappointments - a fifth in the Grade 1 American Oaks last July and an eighth in the Grade 3 Regret Stakes a month earlier. She has nine career starts with four wins and two third place finishes. She enters with a ton of confidence after her Fleur de Lis score (her second straight win) and is the co-top weight in the Molly Pitcher.
Lady Samuri - enters the Molly Pitcher on a four race win streak (three at Monmouth Park) although she has yet to start a graded stakes race. Last time out was a win over Successful Song by an impressive 8 1/4 lengths in the minor Lighthouse Stakes here June 30 after two other wins on this track this year. She has seven wins in 20 career starts with five of those coming in her last seven races overall. She is in peak form but steps up in competition Sunday.

Successful Song - finished second in this race last year and has placed in all six starts since - five minor stakes and one graded stakes - the Grade 3 Rampart two back where she finished third. She ended 2012 with a win in the Ocala Stakes and started 2013 with a win in the Sunshine Millions Distaff Stakes - both results at Gulfstream. Last time out was an OK second behind Lady Samuri in the minor Lighthouse Stakes here June 30 for trainer Edward Plesa. She looks for her first graded stakes score Sunday but enters having placed in nine straight with three wins over that span.
Wine Princess - Steve Margolis trained filly is coming off her worst effort in some time - a last place finish in the Grade 2 Fleur de Lis Handicap at Churchill Downs June 15 after pressing the pace and tiring. Before that she won three of four starts including an Allowance Optional Claiming April 27 and the Monmouth Oaks here In August. Sandwiched in there is a good second in the Grade 2 Indiana Oaks in October - her last race before a six month layoff. She has four wins and two seconds in eight career starts and makes just her third start of 2013 Saturday.
Winiliscious - races in graded stakes company for the first time Sunday and is coming off a distant last place effort in the minor Lighthouse Stakes on this track June 30. She won four straight races toward the end of 2012 - three of which came on this track and placed in seven straight before her result last time out but she has never come up against the competition she faces in the Molly Pitcher.
