Las Vegas, NV - The Grade 3 Gallant Bob Stakes is on tap this Saturday, September 21 from Parx Racing in Bensalem, Pennsylvania as part on a day that the lucrative Cotillion Stakes and Pennsylvania Stakes will be contested. Three year olds will take to Parx's dirt track and race 1 1/8 miles searching for the winner's portion of the $300,000 purse.
The Gallant Bob has attracted a full field of 14 three year olds to go in race 9 on Parx's stacked Saturday card. Post time is 4:53 PM. Here is a brief glance into the past performances of all 14 entries for this Grade 3 stakes.
Rainbow Heir - has five career starts for trainer Benjamin W. Perkins and four wins - the last being his biggest to date in the six furlong Grade 3 Jersey Shore Stakes by five lengths at the Gallant Bob distance Monmouth Park July 4 in a race he earned a good 101 Beyer Speed Figure. He also had an Allowance score May 12 after a couple of wins at Laurel Park to star his career. Last time out was his only career hiccup - a sixth in the Grade 2 Amsterdam Stakes at Saratoga July 28. Despite that hiccup he is the tepid 3-1 favorite for Saturday's race - he departs from post 11 as the co-highweight of 122 pounds with Mike Smith in the saddle.
Clearly Now - has eight career starts - two wins to start his career and two thirds in his next two - one of the thirds coming in Grade 3 Holy Bull at Gulfstream January 26 at 42-1 odds and the other in the minor Display Stakes December 1. He has five starts in 2013 and has placed in all - a second last time out in the minor Charlie Barley Stakes at Woodbine July 6 followed a decent third in the Grade 2 Woody Stephens June 8, a second in the Grade 3 Bay Shore April 6 and his best result to date - an impressive win in the Grade 3 Swale Stakes by 1 3/4 lengths at Gulfstream March 2. Clearly Now is the 4-1 second choice in the morning line, is the 122 pound co-highweight and lines up in post 12 with Luis Saez in the irons for Saturday's race.
Zeewat - very impressive Jerry Hollendorfer colt has nine career starts with five wins including the minor California Derby over Wildcat Moon January 12 and the Gold Rush Stakes December 8. He started his career with two wins then had a fourth in the Tim Conway Stakes at Santa Anita in October and a third in the Golden Nugget Stakes here in November but struggled a tad earlier this year - a fifth in the Grade 3 El Camino Real Derby in February was followed by a fourth in the minor Jess Jackson Owners' Handicap at Santa Rosa August 10. Last time out however he returned to the winner's circle with an Allowance score at Golden Gate September 1. He is 6-1 on the morning line and departs from gate 13.
Distinctiv Passion - Jeff Bonde trained colt has four wins and three third place finishes in eight career starts but steps up in graded stakes company for the first time Saturday. He won three straight races in the winter including the minor San Pedro Stakes at Santa Anita and has alternated wins and third in four starts since. He lines up in post 2 at 8-1 odds.
Black Hornet - Canadian import races in graded stakes company for the first time Saturday but is a multiple minor stakes winner - the Queenston in May and the Achievement Stakes in June - both results at Woodbine. Last time out was another OK result - a second in the minor Kenora Stakes also at Woodbine. He is also 8-1 on the morning line and departs from post 3 having won two races at the Gallant Bob distance.
Amarish - Steve Asmussen trainee had looked unstoppable in his first two races before stumbling last summer - a sixth in the Grade 2 Best Pal Stakes at Del Mar to follow a sixth in the Grade 3 Hollywood Juvenile Championship on July 14. He won the Willard Proctor Stakes and a Maiden Special Weight race in his debut in impressive fashion. He endured seven months away and returned with a seventh in the minor Baffle Stakes in March followed by a fifth in an Allowance at Keeneland in April. Last time out was a very promising second to Rainbow Heir in the Grade 3 Jersey Shore Stakes at Monmouth Park after an Allowance Optional Claiming score at Churchill Downs June 6. Amarish is certainly trending upward and is an intriguing 10-1 on the morning line with Jose Ortiz in the irons.
Salutos Amigos - raced in stakes company for the first time March 9 and finished a somewhat disappointing fifth in the Grade 2 San Felipe Stakes at Santa Anita after three MSW races produced a win by 3 3/4 lengths, a fourth and a second respectively. He followed that with another off-the-board finish - a fourth in the Grade 3 Bay Shore Stakes at Aqueduct April 6 and a ninth in the Grade 2 Woody Stephens at Belmont Park June 8. He had his best result in quite some time in July however - a third in the Grade 2 Amsterdam but fell back to earth last time out with a seventh in the King's Bishop Stakes at Saratoga. He is listed at 12-1 odds and lines up in post 5.
Res Judicata - John Servis pupil started his 2013 campaign with an eighth in the Grade 3 Swale Stakes in March and followed that with a pair of minor stakes starts - a second in the Fit to Flight Stakes April 7 was followed by a sixth in the Chick Lang Stakes at Pimlico May 18. He registered an Allowance Optional Claiming score at Penn National in June and repeated that feat last time out on this track August 6 but did have a fifth in the Grade 3 Jersey Shore Stakes sandwiched in there. He departs from the rail at 12-1 odds Saturday.

Take it Like a Man - makes his graded stakes debut Saturday but enters having won four of his last five races. The only blemish over that span was his only career stakes action - a sixth in the minor Coach Jimi Lee Stakes at Arlington Park in July. Last time out was an Allowance Optional Claiming score at Ellis Park August 11. Take it Like a Man has five wins in 11 career starts - four of which have come in his last five races.
English Manor - local entry has raced exclusively at Parx and has three wins, five seconds and two third place finishes in 18 starts. He won a pair of Starter Allowance races earlier this summer and was most recently ninth in his graded stakes debut - the Grade 3 Smarty Jones on this track September 2 after a third in an Allowance August 3. Needless to say with two of his three career wins in his last four starts, English Manor enters in decent form although his graded stakes debut was a bit of a disaster.
Majestic Hussar - won his career debut here by an impressive 6 1/4 lengths on August 11 but followed that with a disappointing seventh in the Grade 2 Three Chimneys Hopeful at Saratoga in September. His next two starts were Allowance Optional Claiming races resulting in a second December 15 and a win January 19. He had a win in an Allowance Optional Claiming August 4 after a 5 1/2 month layoff and a fourth in the Fountain of Youth Stakes February 23 but last time out posted his career worst result - a ninth in the Grade 1 Bishop Stakes at Saratoga August 24. He is one of the longer shots in the field at 10-1 and takes off from post 8.
Heaven's Runway - had a pair of disappointing sevenths to end 2012 - the Grade 3 Iroquois in October and the Grade 3 Delta Downs Jackpot in November but has started 2013 off in decent form - thirds in the minor Big Drama Stakes January 5 and the Grade 3 Southwest Stakes at Oaklawn Park February 18. He struggled after that to a ninth in the Grade 3 Arkansas Derby in April and a fifth in an Allowance in May but did record an Allowance score last time out at Presque Isle Downs August 7.
Purple Egg - has 5 career starts for trainer Jane Cibelli - he won his first three - the minor Inaugural Stakes last time out over the impressive Brave Dave at Tampa Bay December 1, an Allowance in September here and a MSW in his career debut at Monmouth in August. He only has two starts this year - a ninth in the Grade 2 Tampa Bay Derby in March and a third in the minor Trippi Stakes at Belmont Park in April and races for the first time since then on Saturday. He has been impressive - but that was a year ago and layoffs have been a huge part of his last 12 months. Purple Egg is 20-1 on the morning line and starts from the far outside post.
City of Weston - had a three race win streak in the spring including two minor stakes scores (the Ocala Breeders' Sale Sophomore Stakes and the Big Drama Stakes). Last time out was an OK second in the minor Hard Spun Stakes at Delaware Park after a sixth in his only graded stakes action - the Grade 3 Carry Back Stakes at Calder July 6. City of Weston has four wins, four seconds and four third place finishes in 20 career starts. He is the longest shot in the field at 20-1 odds and lines up in post 7.
