2013 Oklahoma Derby Race Favorite Entries

Departing - sat out the Kentucky Derby but entered the Preakness as one of the hotter entries - he finished sixth in that race but bounced back with two straight impressive wins since - last time out with win in the Grade 2 Super Derby as 1-5 favorite with a Beyer Speed Figure of 104 at Louisiana Downs September 7 and a terrific 8 3/4 length win in the Grade 2 West Virginia Derby at Mountaineer August 3. He had five starts prior to the Preakness with four wins including the Grade 3 Illinois Derby April 20 and the minor Texas Heritage Stakes at Sam Houston March 2. His only other career blemish other than the Preakness? A third in the Grade 2 Louisiana Derby March 30 at Fair Grounds. He enters as the class of the field having won six of eight career starts with a third place finish. Departing will depart from the far outside post as the strong favorite at 6-5 odds Sunday.

Broadway Empire - is coming off two nice wins in Canada - the Grade 3 Canadian Derby by three lengths as favorite last time out August 17 and the minor Ky Alta Handicap by seven lengths in July - both results at Northlands Park. Before that was a sixth in the Grade 3 Affirmed Handicap in June, a second and a win in his debut. Broadway Empire's Canadian success is a tad hard to gage but he is the only other graded stakes winner besides Departing in the field and is being sent off as the 4-1 second choice.
