Las Vegas, NV - Santa Anita Park in Arcadia, California will host the Grade 3 San Gabriel Stakes this Sunday, January 13. Four year olds will be featured as they go 1 1/8 miles on Santa Anita's turf track in search of their share of the $150,000 purse.
A stellar group of seven will line up in the San Gabriel which is race 8 on Santa Anita's Sunday card. Post time is 4:07 PM. Here is a brief glance into the past performances of all seven combatants for this Grade 2 race.
Jeranimo - Jeranimo returned to prominence recently with a win in the Grade 1 Shoemaker Mile after a decent second in the race before - the Grade 3 San Francisco Mile at Golden Gate. He was third in the Grade 2 Del Mar Mile August 26 - the third straight race in which he placed. Since then has been a sixth last time out in the Breeders' Cup Mile and a fourth last time out in the Grade 2 Citation Handicap at Hollywood Park November 23. He won this race in 2010 and was second behind Norvsky last year and will have new rider Rafael Bejarano in the saddle Sunday - history is certainly on Jeranimo's side!
Slim Shadey - had looked good before a fifth as favorite in the Grade 1 United Nations Stakes at Monmouth on July 7 and another fifth in the Grade 1 Eddie Read. He won the Grade 2 John Henry Turf Championship three back on September 30 but followed that up with a tepid eighth in the Breeders' Cup Turf and an OK fourth in the Hollywood Turf Cup last time out December 15. He had three straight second place finishes earlier in 2012 including the Grade 1 Charles Whittingham to Acclamation, in the Grade 1 Woodford Reserve Turf Classic at Churchill Downs and the Grade 1 San Luis Stakes on March 25. Slim Shadey was up and down last year but showed some serious form at times.
Chosen Miracle - Lightly raced Jerry Hollendorfer colt started his career with two straight wins but followed that with a seventh in the Grade 3 Iowa Derby in June of 2011. After that he has raced four straight Allowance Optional Claiming races with two seconds, a third and a win four back at Santa Anita way back in February. After a seven month layoff he returned with an impressive second in the Grade 3 Eddie D Stakes here September 28, a disappointing twelfth in the Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint and a nice wire-to-wire win last time out in an Allowance Optional Claiming at Hollywood Park December 8. He stretches out to his longest career distance this weekend and will have Joe Talamo in the saddle.
Juniper Pass - returned from a lengthy layoff in May to finish fourth in an Allowance on May 19 and followed it up with an OK fourth in the Grade 1 Charles Whittingham Memorial Handicap on June 9 behind the likes of Acclamation. It was just over a year ago that Juniper Pass was one to keep your eyes on - two straight wins in the Grade 2 San Luis Stakes and the Grade 2 San Juan Capistrano Handicap. His last four starts have yielded a fourth, a third and a second place finish (the latter two coming in minor stakes races) and finally a decent fourth last time out in the Breeders' Cup Marathon here in November.

Temple's Door - had an Allowance Optional Claiming score August 5 - his first win in 15 months but followed that up with a seventh in the Grade 2 John Henry Turf September 30 and a third in the minor Lure Stakes at Santa Anita October 28. Last time out was a fifth in the Grade 2 Citation Handicap at Hollywood Park November 23. Temple's Door has three wins and three thirds in 10 career starts for trainer Jeff Mullins.
Tale of a Champion - has nine career starts with four wins but finished a distant sixth in his graded stakes debut - the Grade 2 Del Mar Handicap on August 26 and followed that with a fifth in the Grade 3 Eddie D here September 28. Since that time Tale of a Champion has continued to struggle - an eighth in the Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint two back and a sixth right behind Temple's Door in the Grade 2 Citation Handicap last time out.
Fast Track - has finished third in four of his last five starts and is coming off a good third last time out in the Grade 3 All American Stakes at Golden Gate November 23. He only had three starts in 2012 with two third place finishes and a fifth and has just two wins in 12 career starts.
