Las Vegas, NV - The Grade 2 Lake George Stakes is on tap for this Wednesday, July 24 from Saratoga Race Course in Saratoga Springs, New York. Three year old fillies will be after the winner's share of the $200,000 purse when they race 1 1/16 miles on Saratoga's inner turf track.
The Lake George Stakes has attracted a field of seven females plus one Main Track Only entry to go in race 9 on Saratoga's Wednesday card. Post time is 5:20 PM. Here is a brief glance into the past performances of all eight combatants for this Grade 2 stakes.
Tapicat - legendary Bill Mott trained Tapicat has won three of her four career starts - three in a row including the Grade 3 Florida Oaks last time out at Tampa Bay Downs way back on February 2, a one mile Allowance Optional Claiming score by 5 1/4 January 9 at Gulfstream and a MSW score before that. Her other career start was a third in a MSW at Belmont Park October 28. She has led every step in her three turf starts and is the one to beat Saturday. She has been out of action for 5 1/2 months but there is no denying the talent of this filly. She is currently the 2-1 morning line favorite for the Lake George.
Kitten's Dumplings - Michael Maker trained filly is a multiple graded stakes winner that has seven career starts already with four wins and a second place finishes. She heads into the Lake George having recorded her two biggest wins - the minor Edgewood Stakes at Churchill Downs May 3, and last time out in the Grade 3 Regret Stakes also on that track. She also had a good second in the Grade 3 Florida Oaks behind Tapicat in February but followed that with a fifth in the Grade 1 Ashland at Keeneland in April. She has been up and down in her career but comes into this week in career best form. Kitten's Dumplings is the co-second choice at 5-2 odds.
Watsdachances - Irish bred filly started her career in Europe but it wasn't until she hit North American soil that she emerged a contender. Watsdachances won her first two starts in America - the P.G. Johnson Stakes in her debut and the Grade 3 Miss Grillo at Belmont Park October 8 and then followed that with a very good second behind Flotilla in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf in November. In her only starts since the Breeders' Cup she was fourth in the Grade 3 Appalachian Stakes at Keeneland April 18 and an OK third last time out in the Grade 3 Sands Point Stakes at Belmont Park May 27. The Chad Brown pupil has looked just OK since taking North America by storm and will be looking to get back to her winning ways Wednesday. She looks for her first win of 2013 Wednesday, has looked good in workouts and is listed as the 4-1 third choices after being favored in her other two starts this year.
Midnight Watch - has won two of her three career starts for trainer Kiaran McLaughlin - two straight heading into Wednesday's race. Last time out was an Allowance score at Belmont Park May 30 after a MSW win May 5 on that same track. Her other career result was an eleventh in her debut in a MSW. She is making her stakes debut Wednesday and is 5-1 on the morning line.
