Las Vegas, NV - The Grade 1 Delaware Handicap comes our way from Delaware Park this Saturday, July 12. A nice purse of $750,000 will be on the line for fillies and mares three years old and upward willing to go 1 1/4 miles on Delaware Park's dirt track.
A small but quality field of six will line up in the Delaware Handicap - race 9 on Delaware Park's Saturday card. Post time is 4:51 PM. Let's take a peek into the past performances of all six entries for this Grade 1 stakes.
Princess Of Sylmar - stellar Todd Pletcher pupil has won 9 of her 13 starts with two seconds in there - the seconds coming in the Grade 2 Gazelle Stakes to Close Hatches at Aqueduct April 6 and by a head to Close Hatches in the Grade 1 Ogden Phipps last time out June 7 at Belmont Park. Her other blemish was an uncharacteristic sixth in the Breeders' Cup Distaff in the last 20 months. Her wins include the minor Cat Cay Stakes at Aqueduct April 6 in her first start of 2014, the Grade 1 Beldame over Royal Delta in September, the Grade 1 Alabama Stakes August 17, the Grade 1 American Oaks July 20 at Saratoga, the Grade 1 Kentucky Oaks at 38-1 odds over Dreaming of Julia and Beholder, the minor Busher Stakes at Aqueduct February 2 and the Busanda Stakes by 7 1/2 lengths January 4. Princess Of Sylmar has won five of her last seven races overall and will be looking to regain the form that saw her dominate in 2013 - she should get it done! Javier Castellano gets the mount on the even money favorite and 123 pound highweight from the outside post.
Molly Morgan - Dale Romans trained mare has been terrific the last six months. Last time out was a nice win in the Grade 2 Fleur de Lis Handicap by four lengths at 10-1 odds June 14 after a win in the Grade 1 La Troienne Stakes in May - both results at Churchill Downs after a third in an Allowance Optional Claiming at Gulfstream in March. Molly Morgan has 21 career starts with five wins, three seconds and five third place finishes and enters this week in a state of constant improvement. Corey Lanerie will be in the saddle at 3-1 from post 3 looking for her first Grade 1 score.
Flashy American - made her graded stakes debut with a very respectable second in the Grade 3 Shuvee last July 20 after a win in her stakes debut - the Iowa Distaff Stakes at Prairie Meadows June 28. She had a nice two race win streak in the summer - the minor Alada Stakes at Saratoga August 9 and the minor Locust Grove Stakes at Churchill Downs September 7 and has looked very good recently. Last time out was a second behind Molly Morgan in the Grade 2 Fleur de Lis Handicap at Churchill Downs June 14 after a career best performance - a win in the Grade 3 Sixty Sails Handicap in April. She did have a sixth in the Grade 2 Azeri Stakes at Oaklawn Park to start her year March 15 after an OK third in the Grade 2 Falls City Handicap at Churchill Downs in November ended 2013. She has eight career wins, four seconds and three third place finishes in 27 career starts for trainer Kenneth McPeek and enters in the best form of her career. Alex Cintron rides the 7-2 choice from post 2.

She has 34 career starts with seven wins, 12 seconds and seven third place finishes and departs from the rail at 10-1 odds Saturday with Jose Ortiz aboard.
Gamay Noir - raced in graded stakes company for the first time for trainer Martin Wolfson February 16 and finished fifth in the Grade 2 Sabin Stakes at Gulfstream and followed that with a fourth in the minor Wayward Lass Stakes at Tampa Bay March 15 and a true breakthrough performance - an upset win at 49-1 odds in the Grade 3 Rampart Stakes at Gulfstream March 29. She followed that with an OK third in the Grade 3 Sixty Sails Handicap at Hawthorne April 19 and returned to the winner's circle last time out in the Grade 3 Obeah Stakes on this very track June 14. She has five wins and five thirds in 17 career starts and has two wins and a third in her last three starts overall - all graded stakes. Delaware Park's leading rider Daniel Centeno has the return mount from gate 4 at 10-1 odds.
Bryan's Jewel - was terrific at this time last year winning the minor John W. Rooney Memorial June 8 and the Grade 3 Obeah Stakes June 15 - both results on this track. She hasn't tasted victory since but she has finished third in three of her last four starts including two minor stakes starts on this track - the Justakiss Stakes June 5 and the Winter Melody Stakes May 21. Bryan's Jewel has 32 career starts with eight wins, six seconds and eight third place finishes and seems to save her very best for Delaware Park. Jevian Toledo will be in the reins of the longest shot in the field (15-1) from post 5 Saturday.
